State Farm is offering me $4,900 for my '98 Mark VIII with Sunroof, and with 165,000 miles. Is that good? If I accept it, what becomes of my vehicle and if it has a salvage price can I then buy it back? Do I want to buy it back?

that's good money for it. how bad is the damage? and what is the salvage price?

The right door, right frt. fender, right front headlight, right door mirror, and maybe the whole bumper. The wrecker broke off the front bumper on the right side, also the right frnt wheel is pushed in at an angle so something holding the wheel is broken. How do you get the salvage value??

Well to them it's over ten years old and there is no loan value on it. If it was a very clean car before the accident make them do a "fair market value" on it. I have been through all of this with them in the past. you have to be aggressive with them.

Be glad you were able to have full coverage. I couldn't buy full coverage with state farm if I tried and I did try but they wouldn't do it because of it's age. I guess they vary in some states. I did still go with them for liability though and renters insurance on the house I rent.

I'd buy the car back and fix it. Doesn't sound too bad. Got any pics to show?

Personally i would take the check, i got my 98 LSC in very clean condition with 140k for $3K...

State farm gave me 5400 for my 95 with 120K on it. No questions asked. They also covered my MacBook pro and the kids car seats. I had the rental the next morning, and the check in my hand 2 days after that. The new car was in my name exactly 7 days after the accident. I had nothing out of pocket. I bought the car back from them for 700 and stripped it for almost 700 I also got 400 for the shell.

I see. Just hoped he didn't think it was actually going to cost that much to find a comparable.

I found an almost exact same Mark (no sunroof) as mine in Fla. with a 1 car owner, 115,000 miles. Dealer wants $4,400 plus $500 to deliver here in TX. If you figure I was getting ready to order $400 in front end parts then maybe I am getting $4800 for it from St.Farm? Oh and my paint on all top surfaces had gone to hell, all turned white in huge blotches. My son says I am stupid to buy another gas guzzler and should spend maybe up to $10,000 and get an almost 100,000 mile Jap. car like an Acura that gets 30+ MPG plus and runs on reg. gas plus a car payment for 36 months. Or am I better off with a 60,000 less miles, mine had 167,000 paid for Mark or an Acura or Honda Accord or I am even finding really clean BMW 540i 2003 model for less than $10,000! sht what to do! Help! Oh I guess I should mention I'm 67 and crawling under my Mark so much is really getting old.

Or a car payment and the Mark gets close enough to 30 mpg. 23 to 28 for most and also, you can pull out into traffic and get the hell out of the way in 3 seconds and be in the flow like everyone else without it taking 20 seconds to get up to speed and slowing everyone else down.

Mark has comfort, Jap cars don't, unless the car payment is real high and you buy something nice. Wait, I mean pay on something nice...
