Starting problems

i mean you have it fixed, unless there is another problem somewhere else, but that was a big part of it

It was a big part of the problem. I put a connector on it. Its starting to look more like the starter is dying. I just can figure out how to get the top and the middle bolts out to get it out to get it tested. And one have any tips?

What's wrong with the starter? I think these starters are pretty good, with all the miles I've put on my Marks, I've never had to replace a starter because it was bad, just for trans removal.

When you had your battery tested, was it load tested?

Anyway, to remove the starter, I've used combinations of 1/4" drive sockets, extensions, and u joints.

Any thoughts on this... I know that it would be worth it to just replace the starter if I pull it out but I tapped on the solenoid a few times with a hammer and the car started... Could it be a bad solenoid causing all these problems? What say the masses?

If you tap it and it started you've got a bad solenoid, the starter bolts are 10mm, I use a 3/8 drive flex head craftsman, 3 inch extension,
1 inch extension and a deep 10mm for the bolt closest to the block, the other 2 are fairly simple to get out

Cool deal... Plus the solenoid is a lot cheaper then the starter. lol

the starter and the solenoid are one piece on these, generally they arent sold seperatly that ive ever seen, only on the older vehicles where the solenoid is bolted to the firewall or the like

I know they sell a separate solenoid and there are to bolts that hold it in so I might take a stab at it to save about 100 dollars.

Meh. New starters are 90-$130 depending on brand and a new solenoid is $45. You may replace the solenoid and discover the other part of the problem is the motor itself heat soaks or has warn brushes and still have the issue. Not saying thats that but just something to think about. Its a PITA IMO to get to the starter while the motor is in the car and I hate doing the same job multiple times.

if i take the time to pull the starter, i go ahead and clean up the insides. some light sanding where the brushes touch, and replace the brushes. i dont like doing things over.
