Starting problems

So today I got in my Mark and the thing started fine. Drove around made a few stops and on the last stop when I got in it would not start. I had a friend come out and jump start it and the car started. I continued on my way. Made another stop and when I got back in the same thing happened. Friend came out again jumped it again and the car started. When I got home I shut the Mark down and tried to start it again and nothing... Went back out to the car a couple of hours later and still nothing. Finally about after three hours or so it started. I took the battery out and went to have it tested and it tested good. Im thinking starter but hoping that you guys here have an idea that I could be easier then replacing the starter or its not that bad of a job to do?
 
By not start do you mean it will not turn over?
Or does it crank over but not start?
 
If it's a gen 1 and the battery is good, I'd check/clean/tighten the solenoid wire connector on the starter solenoid. It's just a cheap push on connector.
 
I have had a similiar problem...it wound up being the terminal connecters. Make sure they are clean and on tight.

Plus that one time where it wouldnt start and then you wated a few hours and it started..... was it a quick start or did it just barley turn over?
 
Right, a good batt will recover some voltage after sitting for 3 hours without load. Which is why Im leaning toward the Alt.

Otherwise its an intermittant issue with one of these connectors which should not have required a set of jumper cables to begin with.

It started quick like always... I had the battery tested and it tested good... Im really leaning towards the post and connectors at the starter since I cleaned the ones at the battery already.
 
Just a word of advice which you may already know. When you go messing with the starter to clean and check connections, thake the ground off the battery.

Ya I knew that already... Dont want a shocking experience. Hahaha But take a look at this... When I went under to check the starter connections I pulled off this small nasty wire... I think its my problem. What say everybody?

Yeah, that would be a good place to start.:)

My red car did that for a while, it would randomly not crank and then it would crank right up. I cleaned it up and tightend it a bit and it was fine then.

I think I solved the problem... but now killed the battery because of starting it and shutting it off... Oh well I will let it sit on the charger tonight and see what happens.
