Hey,

My LS is sitting in the yard for the winter and I am toying around with ideas.. I am having troubles when accelerating quickly and I miss 2nd.. I wanted to know how much trouble I would have to change out the shifter to the SST one? Would the PCM have to be changed because when I put mine in 1st it just says 1 on the shift indicator. I can see (when the light hits it) that SST is there on the shift indicator but just doesn't illuminate. Just an idea.. Thanks in advance!

Kyle

The only thing that would need to be changed is if you wanted to use d4. But if you don't care about that, then there is no other modification needed.

Thanks for the replys! The d4 is not a big issue as long as it goes though all the gears like normal (1,2,3,4,5).. Anyone have an idea of cost? I got all the problems worked out and now it moddin time..:D

No real cost other than the shifter and you can find one used. Have a dealer re-flash and you will have all gears showing. Try SEARCH should find the answers to your questions.

From the pictures the Quik has posted, it looks like the paddles are stationary on the steering column. This means that they would be fixed and not move when you turned the steering wheel.. If that's the case, you would not need a clock-spring. Correct me if I'm wrong..

The paddles are attached to the steering wheel and they turn with the wheel. The wire wraps and unwraps as you turn the steering wheel.

Thanks. That was exactly what I was looking for. The pictures and instructions are great. I read through it and you said that it says D3 when you have it in D4. Is it actually in D3 or does SST go through gears 1-5? I have to get the PCM re-flashed anyways because of the shift points and other things messed up so could they do this at the same time? Would it cost the same amount or would they charge me twice.. BTW, I'm only paying 60 to get it re-flashed..

SST goes through all the gears like you would expect - there is no need to reflash anything.

The shifter plate has D4 in the lowest position - but if you move the shifter into the location it is actually D3 transmission wise. It's no big deal - who ever puts the car in D4?

Cool.. Well Max will be hearing from me soon to see what kind of price I can get from him.. The reason I need to get it re-flashed now is that it bucks in 4th.. It shifts way to soon and when you let off the gas, the RPMs are at 1600. When you give it gas again, RPMs go down to 1400 and the car bucks a little.. Also, when I try to run a KOEO test, the scanner says that it can't complete the test. I can also look at what gear it is in when I hook the scanner up and that's all whacked up too. If they (stealership) charges me more to flash for SST, I'm just going to tell them to forget it. I can live without D4.. The only time it is in D4 is when I am shifting up 1-5..

Actually, there's no D3; it's just 3rd gear.

The shifter reads vertically, so the non-SST shifter reads:

P
N
R
D5 D4
......3
......2
......1

The SST shifter reads:

P
N
R
D5
D4

So you see the computer reads 3rd gear under D5 instead of D4 when changing the shifter. The swap will cost D4 but you always have all gears available in either D5 or 1-5 in SST mode.

Yep.. I get it now. I have to wait until I have money coming back in before I can buy anything. If anyone has a wood grain SST shifter sitting around, PM me with how much you want for it shipped. This is well worth the money.. I like the slap shifting better than just moving the shifter up

If you have the V8, it can be programed to work like a regular SST, with D4. If you have the V6, I have yet to find someone who take it on where I live. I installed the SST with my V6 back in '06 and I do miss using the D4 around town, like mentioned above. But hey, I just move to SST mode and go about my business. I don't know for sure But I think I was the first one to convert a V6 to SST in the 2nd Gen's.

Yea. I have the V8. Saying that, I also have to say that I put a lot of money into this car to work out the kinks. Now it's time to start making it the way I want to see it.. New shifter, exhaust, do something with the hood, spoiler, PCM flash, and maybe a body kit.

you have to be careful on how you route the cable - and loop it with enough slack to not break....

Looking at doing the paddles along with the SST..

I just remembered that when I was hooking up my sub cables to my deck, the phone/mute cable was disconnected because there is no place for it to go.. Could I cut the wire going to that button and use the clock-spring for the paddles? That would eliminate the need for all that wire.. Plus, it would make me feel safer.. Knowing that it couldn't come undone and make me have to rip it all apart to get it working again..
