Why hasn't anyone tried out the ebay kits. It's not like we need so legit turbo set up because we can't even run that high of a boost on the ls. Wouldn't a ebay kit be enough for the ls? Dont know how good they are but if they work it would save you a lot of money. Why build a turbo set up out of good parts that are good for 20+psi when we can only do like 5-7 psi.
I would rather drive the ls without a turbo than a honda with 800 hp, those little cars bug me. They are annoying with their little fart sounding, rattle can exhuast. They might be cool to drive for a day or two but I would never own one. New the civic si or whatever that little sport model is looks kinda nice and sporty, but I would never own one either way.

There is a lot of half-information in this thread. Please let me suggest that those with a serious interest should go to the turbo forum and do some extended study. You'll be glad you did.

As a final comment on STS, I find it at least a little amusing that they try to scare people into buying their kit by claiming that they have patents on the oiling system they provide. In actuality, they make use of components that are widely available on a commercial over-the-counter basis. They threaten to prosecute anyone who buys the parts from anyone other than them. This sort of dishonesty makes me want to stay widely clear of them.

Ditto, but for budget built power Id go with an Ebay kit. One of those Honda's puts close to 300hp at the ground, the sbc is touching mid 400's. Granted you can build a sbc thats N/A to put that kind of power out but your talking $1500 just for the heads and youd need a stout bottom end with about 10.5:1 to achieve that power level as well.
If crazy horsepower were cheap, everyone would be roaming the streets with 500+hp cars.

Dude, seriously. If you want the LS to be faster, do what I'm going to:
1)TCI streetfighter 3400rpm torque converter ($500 + fliuds, if DIY. Otherwise add money for install)
2)8.8" rear end swap, with an lsd or locker, and 4.56's (will also require custom driveshaft) - Can be done for about $1000. Unless you want an expensive carrier. If you find the pumpkin, carrier, and gears, a shop (well, at least around me) charges about $150 to set it up. You will need to know how to weld, as a custom front brace is needed.
3)tune
That should put you in the 2k range, and have a faster LS. May need DR's, but I haven't seen anyone put the lsd/gears/tc all together yet. I bet traction will most likely be an issue.

You saw what I did with my stock tires, given that was a brakestand but she went right to third gear and proceeded to eat the tires. From a dig/launch my Nittos dont grab for about 5-15ft. Throwing those gears at it and a higher stall is going to be unreal.
4.56's seem to be a bit much IMO

Also the stock PCM ect variates the converter to slip every 8 or 80rpms, forget which, so its never really "locked up"
I was just going to 4.30 it, but as someone said over on the mark side, "don't fear the gear". I do understand that top speed will diminish, but I don't drive 130 mph either.
And you were only putting power to 1 wheel... :shifty:

Im putting out enough power to scare the other tire into spinning without a LSD.
You saw the pic, clearly two strips going down the road lolwhat does number 1 do? How much HP added?
will number 2 add hp? how much?
already have number 3
and for 3K you can get turbo on other cars so unless this is a big hp gain why drop 2K on little gains?

If you dont know what 1 & 2 do you shouldnt even be bothering yourself with the complexities of a turbo system. Dont get your feelings all hurt by this comment either, I cant that sh!t.
The best way I can describe what a higher stall torque converter does is this:
It keeps you in the peak of your power band longer. Power bands show where you make the most power (if you've ever noticed, the engine is a dog until about 3300rpms). So what the torque converter does is skips the low power section of the power band.
I hope I don't have to explain what going from 3.31's to 4.56's does.
While this does not add hp, it lets you use available hp better. Your 0-60 time will drastically improve. This will make your car faster, though a dyno will show the same peak hp number. This is why hp means nothing. Show me trap speeds/timeslips. That tells you how fast your car is, not how many hp are printed off a machine.
Do you want only bragging rights? Then shoot for a high hp number. If you want to surprise a doucher in a vette at a stoplight, go my route.

Knowing what they are and what they do are two entirely different things. Neither will "increase" horsepower per say, but they allow you to use your power a lot more efficiently.

Don't forget that if you change the gearing - and if you are using your LS as a highway driver - you could potentially be running a lot more rpm, both annoying and bad for gas mileage.
lol. I was comparing to a 2000 vette earlier today. from a quick google search, I found a 0-60 of 5 seconds, ET of 12.4, and a trap of a little over 110. I don't think that based on my mods the LS would make it close to the 12 second category.
