Hey guys,

I recently noticed a loud squeaking sound coming from the rear drivers side. After a little testing it's only noticeable at low speeds and when going over uneven ground (mostly when the car goes up and down). Also, if I stand on the door sill (with my arms on the roof) and hop up and down, that movement makes the squeak really noticeable and seems to be coming from the driver's side wheel area. Could this be anything other than a shock (or are they called struts?). I am not sure what the previous owner replaced but I recently turned 100,000 miles. I know the suspension of these cars is a bit more complex than others. The car seems fine over bumps (other than the noise) and doesn't sit lower in the back so the issue isn't obvious. I'd like to get some opinions before I start throwing money at it. Also, if I do replaced the rear shocks, what other suspension parts should I look at replacing since they're probably worn out after 100,000. Oh, I have an 03 v8. As always, thanks in advance! :D

You can start by hitting up each rubber component with some WD-40, one at a time, until the squeak stops. It could very well be your sway bar bushings.

Edit: Yay 1000th post!

Yes - sounds very much like that....Thanks for the info.

Btw, how obnoxious is that sound!! ;)

OMG had the same issue a while back durring the summer...my tire shop lubed up my bushings on the rear end....apparantly there is like 6 of em...and the squeek went away.

Correct. To resolve my squeak, I bought a grease gun w/ a needle tip, and squirted some brake caliper grease into the self-lubricating bushing (mine was dried out, the boot must've torn). It has been a few months since, and everything has been quiet.

$20 vs $400 on a new LCA.
