I have a 2000 v8 with 80k.

When I heavily accelerate; my car sputters and occasionally the power steering and brakes shut off and engine and battery light come on. This actually happened to me the other day so I pulled over and turned off the car and waited a few seconds then tryed starting it...it cranked for about 5 seconds then started up.

I went over to AutoZone to check for any codes and i'm not sure if their device doesn't work for LS because it didn't display anything and did not register to car

not saying this is ur problem, but it may be coil related (misfiring). my car recently did this a couple times and almost caused a couple accidents.
the ls is not that adanced to where an autozone scanner wont communicate with it, its just a ford lol.

Yea, Autozone has scanned my car before with no issues.

And yea replace coils and pluigs. And since you have a gen1.. Check for leaking gaskets.

There are ebay kits for the coils that go for 109 shipped for 8 of them that have a lifetime warranty. I will be buying this kit. On rockauto.com they have autolite platinum spark plugs for 2 a piece but they have a 75 cent rebate for each of them. I have these spark plugs and have no complaints. I have a 5% discount code like everyone else does for rockauto.com. I posted it on the for sale forum. Hope all goes well. The kit for a set of felpro valve cover gaskets is like 38 bucks. Its all cheap but it works. Good luck.

Hi,
I am the tech manager for Autolite spark plugs, I am also a drivability tech in my own shop. You should have the car scanned by someone with a quality scan tool, not the code reader az uses. This will be able to see what are called "history" codes. Your cars sounds like it misfires under a load and actually stalled. This is a common symtom of "spark blow out" caused by worn out spark plugs. Thise LS cars also have valve cover than can leak and cause the coil boots to swell, causing misfire under a load. I would start by replacing the spark plugs with Autolite XP iridium plugs (there is a 2$ rebate per plug right now) and new coil boots. If the old boots are oily, you need to replace the valve cover gasket as well or the problem will come back. If you need more troubleshooting info, I can be reached at jay.buckley@honeywell.com
