Spring/Summer progress

So what do I need for 160, are the Marks stable up there? My Cutlass became airborne around 150 or so.

Ya never know when you might need to beat up on a Porsche.

You need an SCT tune. That will remove the speed limiter. The Mark VIIIs do not become airborne at 150+ but there is some driveline vibration. At least for me since I had 4.10 gears. $hit will hit the fan real quick at those speeds if you make a wrong move no matter what you're driving though, so I urge you to think about it. And even if you are faster than a Porsche, they will be quicker.

Don't you guys go fast?

All I need is a 1/4 mile strip. Speeds beyond that are pointless, risky, and don't really prove much.

I have a W3Z2 and I have not yet been held back by a limiter. I believe these chips are not limited. Still I do plan to get a quarterhorse set up. Any computers I own will be hacked. ;)

I like to go fast. There are some amazing roads here on Vancouver Island and there are many hundreds of go very fast miles in the area. My local strip is 4 lanes of bypass and is straight for about 5 miles with very wide shoulders and the bush cut back from the road a long way. I have spent quite a long time over 120 in my life and rather enjoy it. I have retrieved my Cutlass from 360s that started at over 100 mph, not that I want to go there again you understand. ;) Gatorbacks are a little sudden. My biggest problem is deer.

OIC. Yeah, I have heard there are PCMs with no speed limiter.

I totally understand. All I'm saying is that I was at 150+ in my Mark VIII once and it scared the $hit out of me. A person is trusting the integrity of their vehicle, road, and own driving etiquette at that point. If ANYTHING goes wrong at those speeds, you are done for. As crazy as I have been behind the wheel, I also value my life.

Different strokes for different folks though. Tearing through the gears and racing towards the finish line as fast as I can seems to interest me a lot more than going insanely fast.

Oh I do too. I always, well so far, have built my cars from the bottom up. I do the suspension and all the running gear before I get to the go fast stuff. It will be in very good shape before I venture much past 130 or so.

These cars seem like they were meant to go fast. It seems a bit of a waste to take this highway jewel with the nice IRS etc and drag race it. Anyway what's the point of Brembos if you just have to get stopped once in a while from fairly low speeds?

This Mark does 220 Km/h no problem and I expect to be able to do 240+ with a little more work. So 150 mph is just fine ... for now.

160+ gets sketchy. i've seen 145 and was very comfortable though.

Didnt we just have this thread last month?

172

Oh well, sucks to be you. GPS verified by the NAV deck and phone. With no limiter a Mark can reach 150 pretty easily all else being stock (LSC). Then just do a few add ons like exhust, remove cats, tune and underdrive plus..... oh yeah, A BLOWER and the cars aerodynamics will allow for 172 before 415 crank HP cant push it any more.

Anyway, cant tell you cause that would be incriminating. So lets just say it was a closed 3 mile section of road thats arrow straight and has been seen by a couple members on here. :D
And Sapper can kinda verify. He was still planted in the seat when I hit 150 with him in it.

And thats not the fastest I ever went. I did 187 in a Henessy Venom Viper before and can tell ya they do better at 170 then the Mark did. Marks need more dampening and maybe a belly pan........ and a spoiler would be nice.
At 160 the tail likes to dance a little and I wont be trying it again any time soon.

Thanks.

It was butter at 135 in mine, very smooth. The gasket in my moonroof is kinda going and right around there it gets quite loud. The headliner in my Cutlass would snap down at 140 or so if any window was open. The first time that happened I almost died.

 watch that moonroof. :shifty: i lost one at 135...

whaatt?? how did that happen? in your mark?

yep. it had always been pretty sketchy. leaked, whistled, wasn't smooth, and so on.
then one day when i was really moving, the whistling got louder and then pop. and it was gone.
friend of mine here on the site pulled me one from his parts car and sent it to me. much quieter now.

So it literally flew off your car:eek:? I've never heard of that, its so crazy. Hope it doesn't happen to me lol:eek:

Indeed. For CZAJL, which is the strategy for the W3Z2 EECs, no matter what binary I load gives me this in Binary Editor when any RPM parameter is selected:

I do not have the right binary for my car, Quarterhorse will extract it when I get that set up.

My 2 cents... I never met anyone who put 3.73's in a 4.6 DOHC who didn't wish they went with a lower gear.
You're looking at one right here. The cobra had 4.10s in it and they got yanked to go back to 3.55s.

My MarkVIII will be going back to 3.55s soon as well.

That still gets me everytime I hear it..... you always hear stories of the cheapo K-mart sunroofs flying out.... but never factory ones.....

I can't wait to finish this thing once and for all so I can finally enjoy it.

I have 3:73's in mine now and with the SC build I'm kinda thinking I wish I would have gone 3:55.
My only concern is the stall, I have a circle d triple disk and at highway speed the rpm will still be below the stall speed, which = more heat.
I haven't looked at the lock up schedule in the tune that closely but I'm almost certain I remember seeing in was by gear and speed; lock and unlock.
On a GM 700 or 200r4 I've always used a switch to manually lock up the converter.
Either way I think I would rather have the 3:55's out back.

Soon, I'm getting down to the small parts to prep for the body; then I'll finish the motor. I was hoping to have the paint done by the beach party but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.

I've seen it happen with T-tops too, a friend of mine lost one of his t-tops on his T/A doin only 90 or so..
