I just ordered my speed-cal from Dallas Mustang. I'm hoping I ordered the right one, they only list two on there website, the one is for putting a newer cobra manual trans in a older mustang, so i figured I got the right one right? The guy on the phone couldn't verify that it would work specifically with a markviii but he said it will work with my year 4r70w and the guy also told me they are the only one who makes this kind of product sooo hope everythign goes well when I get it! They pretty easy to install?
 
The part that's the big pita is getting the wire to the transmission connector.

There are other places that make similar stuff (Ford Racing, etc), I don't know if they work with our cars though.
 
the guy told me it connects to where the sensor wire to where the speedometer gear attatched to... That isn't that hard to get to.
 
DallasMustangs Carry all Ford Racing I think, I've been out there a couple of times, one guy loved the car another one laughed at it.

Mikes a good guy, he helped with the tuning on a buddy of mines 03 cobra motor swapped into an 84 GT350 mustang.
 
lol I didnt take it personal, I went by there to find out the labor was going to run to do a cam swap. and I got weird looks. I can get the cams below jobber but not the labor. Im scared to find out how much the labor is going to set me back.
 
sooo howwwwww much of a PITA is it to install? Cuz the main tranny harness is on the passenger side of the trans and i could see how that could be hard to get at.

But the speedogear and sensor is on the driverside and is pretty easy to get to , and thats where you tap into right?
 
or for when you put in a newer mustang trans and have higher diff gears :-) - driller is the installation that complicated? Is my understanding correct? Whats so hard about it?
 
It's not hard to get at the connector, it's getting the wire to it. You either need to run it out a firewall plug and under the car, or drill a hole in the trans tunnel and thread it through. I poked a hole in the rubber boot by the shifter and had a heck of a time threading the wire through so I wouldn't have to drill. The rest was easy...
Drill a hole and it would be fairly easy, just watch were you put it through obviously...
 
Here's the install manual on a Mustang, similar to ours, but we have an auto stick in the way (thats bigger.)
DM used to have the manual on their site, but I can't find it anymore. You'll have to call and get the dip switch settings from them to, as I don't see the calculator on their site now either (last I was told by them was their calcualator didn't work for the newest version of the Speed-Cal anyways.)
 
The install seems pretty straight forward... I just have to figure out how i'm going to calibrate this thing. I have 4.10's in the diff, 01 gt trans with 8 teeth output shaft instead of 7. and the speedo gear I have in there is a 3.73 corrector gear. Any ideas?

Theirs a link on the website you posted for calibrating, but you said that's for old speed cal's correct?

Anyone on here have the same setup as me with 4.10's and newer 8 tooth trans? I guess it will be trial and error if i can't get what switch settings to put in.

I read somewhere about if you're putting a newer gt trans in, that you would run a 19 tooth speedo gear with stock markviii rear gears. If that info is correct, I can put in that corrector gear, and then calibrate for 4.10's for a 7 tooth ya think?
 
FWIW, I mounted the box in my console and drilled a hole down through it and the tunnel. I can still get to it and open it up to program the DIP switches.
 
Pop your sensor out with the gear on it (easy to do) and see what color/how many teeth are on it. Call them up and give them that info and the trans, the rear gear, and tire size and they'll hook you up with the Dip setting...
 
sounds good... Driller could you post a picture of your setup, i think drilling it will be a lot easier doing it your way. I would like to have access to it as well.

I have already replaced the stock speedo corrector gear for a 3.73 (even though I have 4.10 rear) it was close enough with out having to buy that flimsy expensive white one.

I will call them because maybe I won't have to buy that orange gear... but i'm assuming I will because that is a lot of variables.

see when i give them the trans, there going to be a bit clueless because they don't do anything with markviii's. Aassuming the 96-98 mustangs had a 7tooth output shaft on they might be able to help me out.

When I mentioned Markviii they couldn't tell me much because they said they really don't have any experience with using the speedcal on that model of car... But I felt comfortable buying it because of others on here who've bought it.

Orange will calibrate for late model trans with 3.07 - Then dip settings for 4.10's should be spot on. I have stock diamter tires.

So getting the wire through the tunnel is a pain? The directions for the stang say to go through the shifter/shifter plate. I'de really not want to drill through the under body of the car if i don't have. Pics would be great!

The speedcal will be in tomorrow, so I don't have it in hand yet, so im not going to call them just yet. The shift schedule is really annoying currently - shifts wayyy to early, not to mention putting more miles on my car than should be.
 
I installed it with the new tranny. No one at the shop wanted to "drill the hole" - so I just emptied the console, grabbed the cordless drill and popped a hole down through the middle of the console and shoved the wires down through and said "There - hook it up". LOL :D

The power was taken from the tranny harness, that's about the extent I know - Oh, and we had to extend a couple wires in the harness to reach.

I read someone else put theirs in the console area in front of the shifter and ran the wires through the same grommet the tranny wiring has in the shifter area and they did not have any issues?
 
It doesn't matter what color gear is in the trans (this is what the Speed-Cal is for, remember? ;) ) Pull out whatever one is in there just to see what it actually is (# of teeth/color) and get the dip settings done for that and the info I already mentioned above. No need to make it complicated :)

There's lots of room at the front of the shifter like driller said to stash the module and put the wires through. The grommet drops there drops the wires right above the trans though, so thats why it's a pita to get at (or was for me at least)...

i unfortunetly only have stock 3.07 gears,i had a choice of orange gear or speedcal,since i hope to have 4.10's someday i figured speedcal was best way to go.
