Spectre?

I asked around and some people say they used dremels but its hard to believe.

Also pektel, I think workin ike is talking of the plastic ( chrome spray painted crap )clamps. I cant see a silicone coupler giving you a problem. I did see some at the hardware store once that looked OK. It was black with a stainless band around it. IMO, not the look I am going for but some people would like it I am sure.

I just ditched my KKM filter, it was getting ratty, and fitted a much larger K&N in there. Looks nicer too. Those open end filters look rice to me.

good thing I don't drive around with my hood open then :D

It's kind of funny that you say you just put the longer filter in. I was real close to buying a longer one, but saw that it was just capped at the top, and put it back for this one.

I was looking at it from a pure performance standpoint, not an aesthetic standpoint. I was going on the assumption that it would let more air through. Is tehre a difference? Oh well. Once it's in the fender well no one will see it anyway.

What did you use to cut away the material, 02LSE?

Oh wait, from what you're describing you have the filter still in the engine bay, right?

Nothing its in the normal spot. I fit a decenty size one in there.

I wound use an air saw to cut that out though, small and should be able to get in there and get it done. I don't want to butcher my car. I'm building a cold air box for mine. I don't do alot of stop and go traffic driving so the heat soak isn't really a problem.

Want to Build me one too? I mean why build one when you can build two just as easy? :D

I'm trying to keep the design as simple as I can so they can be made again and again. We are getting hot here this week so maybe that will motivate me to do it. I posted pics of a first design.

Yeah in the heat shield sticky IIRC. I'll go take a look there...

It does have more surface space so I am sure that is a bonus some where along the lines:) .

I got the K&N adapter with the K&N filter pack off sleaze-bay and mine came with a bigger filter than most others I see here. It has a almost oval shape to it.

I have been thinking on ordering either a AMSOIL or a KKM but I am now curious to see how this one works.

So while at OReilly's today I found an MAF adapter plate for 12 bucks along with a cone filter for 25, so I picked them up to try them out. Anyone know anything about Spectre? I'm assuming that there are differences in cone filters that affect performance. This one does have the open top with fins going inside of the filter too.
I have an account with Spectre. I use to buy the silicone couplers in bulk when I stocked the polished aluminum and stainless steel intake kits. They are way cheaper than anyone else on the silicone couplers but the other items they have are questionable. Most items are made in China and are rather cheap looking. Also, their sales rep calls me twice a week asking if I need any product. They must be suffering if they want my little $200 order.

Well I am more or less just trying it out. If it works well, great! If not, it's not like I'm out a bunch of money. But the MAF adapter was one solid piece of aluminum. I don't think much can go wrong with that. And the filter? Time will tell. I'll give it a month or two. Problem is, I don't - nor have I ever had - a KKM filter to compare it to.

I think their air filters are just as good as any of the others. KKM uses the S&B filter. I believe S&B makes the filters for Spectre if I'm not mistaken.

Correct me if I am wrong pektel but is that not supposed to be a mafs housing. I have looked at those things wondering what they hell are and I thought that the plate would bolt to the air box or another plate and the tube end was to be placed inside the intake tube itself and either held on with a coupler or with the worm clamp the way the stocker is made and then the mafs itself would be bolted onto the tube much like the stocker also.

Maybe it was another part I was looking at.

Haha, I would suggest those of you that did not look at the site already to do so and check out the cars.

Hahahahaha!!!

Could be, but after simple modification it fits my application. That spectre site said "Allows Air filter or intake system to be directly mounted to MAF. " Sounds like I got the intended usage, but maybe not. I was wondering why it had that plug on the tube part...

Oh, and yea that site is a joke. I really don't think that some of those rides would be sporting chrome plated plastic intake tubes...

What ever happened to Spectreman?

Thats why I figured I would post the link..LMFAO it was funny, especially the Ferrari!

You got the use correct. That little plug piece is in case you put the adapter onto a vehicle that needs to connect a vacuum component.

If you guys know someone that can weld and also know of someone who can do some powdercoating for you then you can make a VERY sexxy and professional looking CAI in your own garage. Both the Gen1 tonsil MAFS as well as the Gen2 Slot MAFS have aftermarket support to allot mounting of the electronics into a steel or aluminum housing that can be welded to an intake tube of your choice. That is what I do when I build turbo systems for these cars. Functional and VERY clean.

For those of you wanting to run a tube down into the front fenderwell area you do not have to cut the oval-ish hole in the fender area there. Bend the lip on the "straight" side of the hole a little and the 3" pipe will clear easily. As for the lower fender brace? You can cut it with a dremel and some patience. I did it when doing the turbo system on my car so I could route my 3" boost pipe through there. Long story short, I ran out of rotozip cutting wheels and didn't feel like running to the store. All it took was a little patience.

www.siliconeintakes.com has allot of the soft connectors you guys would need to make a custom CAI of your own happen.

http://store.racing-solutions.org/index.html has the mandrel bends in aluminum, mild or stainless steel for your tube.

I don't understand that:) . Do you mean that I can easily take of the MAFS from the stock housing and easily apply it to a intake tube if crafty enough:) ?

I have someone ready to make my tube for me but if I can easily have him put the mafs electronics on it ( if thats what you are talking about ) then I may have to change some plans.

That one word was supposed to be "allow" not "allot". No wonder you had a hard time understanding what I posted. I even had a hard time until I seen what I did. Hehe.

Yes. Just make sure that the inner diameter of the new CAI tube where the MAF electronics will mount is the EXACT same diameter as the stocker MAFS housing. That will ensure that your AFR's aren't thrown off. If you decide to go with a bigger tube then a retune will be in order.
