Alright, so when I went to the junkyard the other day, there was an Explorer Sport that they had just put out. It had replacement aftermarket Pioneer 6 x 8 speakers in all 4 spots. At $5.99 each, I had to buy them. These are going to go in my White 97 Mark. I really hadn't planned on doing anything with the stereo system except maybe the head unit, but for the price, I couldn't pass it up. Anyway, for right now, it's still got the entire stock system, including the tape player. To my knowledge, the stock system sends the whole range of sound to the tweeters and just the lows to the woofers. Right? Since I don't currently have an amplifier for them, would it be better to leave the stock tweeters hooked up and just connect the Pioneers to the woofer signal, or would it be better to hook them up to the full range tweeter signal? I'm leaning toward hooking them up to the woofers, but can't really think of too many reasons to go either way.

Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks.

If I end up getting a new head unit, then I'll re-wire them directly from the head unit. I just want to know what would be best for now.

Thanks.

Wire them too the tweeters. The factory "subs" only see a 300hz and down signal plus they are a summond mono signal so there is no real stereo seperation or fading ability.
They will sound best just run off the tweeters wires for now.

Well, I know some people have said that aftermarket speakers sound like crap with everything else stock. That's why I'm wondering about hooking them up to the woofer signal. I think I might try it just to see what it sounds like. Wouldn't be too big a deal to change it around if it doesn't sound right.

Thats exactly why people say it sounds like crap. They hook it to the 6x8 wires. But whatever floats your boat, I dont know much about stereos other then what I learn on the interwebz.

So, I guess I forgot to say that if I hooked them up to the woofer signals, that I would be keeping the tweeters hooked up as they were. I tried it first with the Pioneers on the tweeter wires and there was very little bass. They sounded much better on the woofer wires with the tweeters still hooked up, so that's how I left it.

Ya know what? I am a complete brain dammaged tool! I was thinking "Mustang" as their systems run how I stated with outboard x-overs (cap) on the tweeters. I forgot that our JBL systems ran the tweeters with an electronic x-over and off the amp.
So sorry mang, I can admit when I am wrong.

Just an FYI you can make them sound even better if you pull the stock deck and run the speakers wires direcly to the decks output. The deck has an internal amp thats used in other Ford cars and has almost as much power as the JBL amp but its a full range signal. You can go to any stereo shop and buy a reverse harness so you know what wire is what on the back of the deck so you can cut and splice. If you dont open the adapter you can return it when done. :)

That's not a bad idea, but I think I'm just gonna leave it the way it is for right now until I get a new head unit. At least for now. Maybe if I get bored one day, I'll do that, but I'm happy with it for the moment.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely keep it in mind.
