Speaker Advice

Can't find my exact model with out pulling it out to look at it and I ain't doing that right now. My friends shop hooked me up with the one i am using right now.
Just did a quick google search and came up with this bunch of Mark VIII adaptors tho :D

Since low end in audio systems was my specialty for a couple of years I played with pretty much everything. From High End home and club stuff to Rockford Pro's before they were bought out and went cheap.

Now I settled with a 13W7 in my trunk with a JL1000 amp. Stock speakers with stock amp using a Peripheral adaptor to match my Alpine INA300BT to it. I did drive through the lanes at a Audio show and scored this

This was without removing any of the factory sound deadening from the back seat. All using this just tossed in the trunk.

132dB in a sealed box? Nice!
If I would ever change sub from JL w7 the first stop would probably be Gladen SQL series, if that wouldn't satisfy me the B2 Audio makes some extremely well build subs that can going freaking loud. Built a vented box with a B2 Audio ES8 for my dad and it plays louder than my 12w7 in sealed box, and it's a sub for only $100! Not the best SQ capabilities but for hardrock/metal it's absolutley astonishing!
But for SQ, nothing beats DLS. Have their finest subwoofer inside the house in sealed box I built :)

What are you smoking? Skar better than w6/w7? Haha. Hell, I'd take a Sundown E series over a vvx. Besides, they're ugly and the name is just awful.

Do you know anything about Skar and/or owner Kevin S.? If not I suggest you do some research.. He's a pos.

Yes I met kevin before. I have heard the speakers in person and i personally own a set as well. I have done my research and they are the same as sundown considering the engineer that developed the sundown serious is the same one who also developed the skar audio subs as well. regaurdless of what your personal view is on kevin his line of audio products speak for themself. being im from stpete tampa area i was exposed to them long before they became as popular as they are.

I don't care much about louder. I want accurate low frequency sound that is not over emphasized. I want it to scale smoothly with the rest of speakers

I have some music appropriate for booming but not much, some brutal techno and some slamin' hip hop, but most is funk, modern jazz, which can be very demanding at the bottom, quite a bit of Laswell ambient/dub, and rock. My particular addiction, Buckethead, needs some bottom too although not as much as the aforementioned.

I agree and that is why i suggested it. not only are they louder but they hold the sound quality as well and they scale very well. of course the speaker is only half the battle. a proper box is the other half. I cant take anything away from the 13w7. its a beast of a speaker. however for the price and compairson i believe the skar audio line to be the better speaker in this case. I know a lot of die hard purest will argue that fact but numbers speak for them self. there are just as many people in the sq lanes pulling same types of scores with them as there as people in the db lanes matching spl of the high end w7 series speakers.

All i'm say is that If you knew of all his shady ass business practices both before and during Skar then your mind would change of both him and his product. If you simply choose to ignore them then thats your prerogative. Yes, Sundown and Skar were designed by the same crew. Sundown is still the superior product though and is actually respected in the car audio community.

Definetly a 12w7!
I absolutley love the SQ capabilities my 12w7 have and it can still go loud, really loud!
The only problem is that my DLS A6 can't deliver enough power to go even louder... Maybe a Mosconi AS 2.300 would solve that "problem" :D

Anyways, you should definetly go for a 12w7! I haven't heard 10w7 but I can't imagine it being worse in any way.
My system is all in SQ and the 12w7 does the job so good I would never think of buying something else than another 12w7.

Do you have the DLS tube amp for the car speakers? I think I remember you saying something about that. It's a 2 channel amp I believe. We need 4 channels to drive out 4 sets of speakers and although I leave my fader in the middle and could put up with 2 channels through all 4 speakers it seems like a poor solution. I guess 2 of the tube DLS amps would do the trick though. ;)

Yes I do have it and I belive I've mentioned it before.
DLS was thinking of making a 4 channel version of it but unfortinetly they didn't. But if you have around $5000 to spend on two 2-channel amps, DLS TA-2 is for you then
Can't wait until I've got mine in the car

They are interesting. They are not tube powered though, the pentodes are in the preamp section.

All my home stuff is tube. My preamp and monoblocks are pure tube power. I do like it.

One problem I face though is that I listened to my stuff before I bought it and it's hard to find anyplace I can listen to the DLS tube amp.

Yeah I know the out signals are transistors but it's still porn for audiophiles! :D
I've actually never listened to a pure tube amp. Would love to do that some time...

It looks like I'll be using about 800 watts total. A 4 channel 300 watt and a 500 watt monoblock.

Do I need to worry about that amount of power? Is a cap, battery, or more alternator needed at that level. I doubt I'll ever use all 800 watts anyway.

You'll be fine. You could do the "Big 3" if you experience voltage drop. But thats it, no need for batteries or a h.o alt.

P.s. Capacitors are a "band-aid" and a waste of money.

Good. This is turning into another, oh that's not too much more, maybe ...
