I'm looking at something like this:

to replace the factory speakers in my 93 Premium system.

Has anyone tried those, or perhaps has a better idea.

I'm pretty well sold on a w7 but I have no need of anything massive. I just want to unload the mids a bit, and perhaps play the low note well on Naked City's The Grand Guignol, something I've never heard done really well.
 
While the w7 is a wonderful subwoofer, i'd bet you'd be happy w/ a middle of the road 12" that'll cost you half as much. You can get a w6 for around $200 if you don't mind buying used.

I've seen a few w7s up here on Vancouver Island for pretty reasonable on clist so that's why I think I could swing a 10" w7 but I'm not set on anything yet.
 
I swear by my alpine type r components. They are run by a alpine pdx 4x100, all the low end I need on the front stage. I have them crossed over at 90hz then run a 10w3 for sub bass. More then happy and I do car audio as a profession
 
I went with JL everything. Even including the wiring. I used JL 5x7 components in the front, and 5x7 coaxial-components for rears.

The exceptions being the Pioneer Premier head unit, and the 3 farad capacitor. If JL Audio made either of those, I would've bought those too. Lol.
 
I can get you a brand new Infinity 12" Kappa SSi (their new bad ass sub) and a pair of Mb Quart components with minimal use but with all mounts, x-overs and drivers for $200+ shipping. Sub has never been hooked up or installed and is still in the box. Components have minimal usage on them and still look/sound like new.
Easy drop in on the Mark and the sound will make you smile.

I have last years version of that sub in my truck with a modest 300 watts and it can vibrate a 3300 square foot building. The new one (the one I am selling) is quite a bit louder.
 
I have to wait till the end of the month before I do anything. Christmas makes me poor any year but I have some money coming from a real estate sale although I don't know how much yet. I like the JL stuff but I'll have to see how much I have left after fixing the "air system" warnings. The Infinity sub and, I guess, 6 1/2" Mb Quart components are a good deal for sure.
 
Go with wat is the best bang for ur buck. But I like wat is going to give u the clarity and sound. Just depends wat u r wanting to go for.
 
The first set arrived today, JL Audio C5-570 Evolution C5 Series 5"x7" 2-Way:

Scored them for $345, I had not seen anything under about $380 so i jumped on them.

I'll need another set for the back then I'll need a 10W7 or perhaps a 12W7 in a box for the trunk, I will buy a monoblock for the sub and hook up the speakers to the factory amp and when either that or the head unit dies I will replace all that with a Macintosh CD player and a JL audio 4 channel amp.

I have found some marine sound deadening stuff which I am going to put ... well everywhere. ;)

It's my project you understand. Nothing but almost the best for my baby.
 
this is the first car i own that i replace the speakers. My previous car my rx8 had bose speakers and i was comfortable with those. My plans for my mark viii is upgrade speakers and buy an amplifier and double din. Tax return time is basically here already so i was making a list of all things i wanted to get. I was looking on sonicelectronix.com and saw speakers and amplifiers but was unsure of which is the best sound quality wise

I wouldn't even bother hooking up the jl's to the factory amp. I doubt you'll want to install them now and take the door panels back apart to run new wires. That and they'd probably sound like dooky the way the factory setup is wired. Hold off installing the speakers until you have a Hu and 4ch.

P.s. If anything you should just get the 5x7 cs coaxils for the back, no need to spend $350 on rear fill. .02

I agree. I used JL components in the front, and the JL "component-coaxials" in the rear. They're still a "component" setup with a crossover for woofers and tweeters, but the tweeters are mounted to the woofer, just like a coaxial speaker. They still sound awesome, but they're a little cheaper than the components. I haven't looked to see if they offer them in the CS series though. Mine are the XR series which, at the time (2003-2004) were their top of the line speakers. I've had this particular setup since 2004 (also had the same setup in my first Mark VIII back in 2002) and they still rock and sound great.
 
Definetly a 12w7!
I absolutley love the SQ capabilities my 12w7 have and it can still go loud, really loud!
The only problem is that my DLS A6 can't deliver enough power to go even louder... Maybe a Mosconi AS 2.300 would solve that "problem" :D

Anyways, you should definetly go for a 12w7! I haven't heard 10w7 but I can't imagine it being worse in any way.
My system is all in SQ and the 12w7 does the job so good I would never think of buying something else than another 12w7.

Skar Audio for the win. They are louder and better SQ then the 12w7/13w7 and for a fraction of the price.

What are you smoking? Skar better than w6/w7? Haha. Hell, I'd take a Sundown E series over a vvx. Besides, they're ugly and the name is just awful.

Do you know anything about Skar and/or owner Kevin S.? If not I suggest you do some research.. He's a pos.

I don't care much about louder. I want accurate low frequency sound that is not over emphasized. I want it to scale smoothly with the rest of speakers

I have some music appropriate for booming but not much, some brutal techno and some slamin' hip hop, but most is funk, modern jazz, which can be very demanding at the bottom, quite a bit of Laswell ambient/dub, and rock. My particular addiction, Buckethead, needs some bottom too although not as much as the aforementioned.

I can only save perhaps $100 by going with some what cheaper JLs. I like my fader about in the middle so both front and back are important.

I doubt the JBL premium amp's crossover is all that far from the JL crossover so I will hook them up to my very well running amp till either it or the head unit takes a dump.

A fairly large part of my sound upgrade is putting sound dampening in the doors and pretty well everywhere I feel it might need it so the inside will be on and off a few times and the doors don't look too hard to do.
 
Since low end in audio systems was my specialty for a couple of years I played with pretty much everything. From High End home and club stuff to Rockford Pro's before they were bought out and went cheap.

Now I settled with a 13W7 in my trunk with a JL1000 amp. Stock speakers with stock amp using a Peripheral adaptor to match my Alpine INA300BT to it. I did drive through the lanes at a Audio show and scored this

This was without removing any of the factory sound deadening from the back seat. All using this just tossed in the trunk.
 
Nice, I knew they got loud. I will probably get a JL 600/1 for the 10" in a sealed box although I have not ruled out a 12".

What Peripheral adaptor did you use to adapt the Alpine to your stock system?
