Hey everyone:

It's been a little while since I've spent any time on here. Having some trouble with the mark unfortunately, hoping I could get some more help.

I posted a thread about it stalling sometime ago and got some good information but it seems that this problem has come to be a bigger issue now.

Previously the car was stalling and the people here and my mechanic and I have come to the conclusion that it was the IACV? Idle Air Control Valve I believe. However, it now seems that there is a drain or an electrical short somewhere in the car.

Something has been draining the battery, and it also seems that the fuel pump has no pressure coming from it all though its intermittent. It will start sometimes and we cant find the wires that run to the fuel pump to see if the fuel pump is receiving power.

I was hoping someone might have the electrical manual, I have the mechanical one. maybe I could come by and barrow it or purchase it from you? Any information would be great gentlemen

Check the simple things first.

Charge the batt. or replace it.
Check how many volts the alt. is pushing to the batt. when car is running.
You must have +14 volts going to the batt. or these cars do very strange things.
 
It sounds like you may have two separate problems. First, with the car cold, place your hand on the alt. When they are about to die, they get hot. Probably a short in the windings? Not sure. Check in the trunk for an electronic box attached by the passenger's side trunk lid hinge. I'm not sure if the 96's have said box. I know Gen II's have them. I have a spare if you want to see if thats the problem with the fuel. I live in Tamarac and have several parts. Feel free to call me on my cell @ 732-794-7500

Hi dude. An electrical short can be so many things. You got your hands full. IAC could definitely be a factor if the car is shutting off. IAC also accelerates your car. Depending on how it got stuck.

I understand, this is actually a 95 LSC. I apologize for not mentioning originally, it's really possible it is the IAC because the car is sluggish in the gear, like I take a left turn and it gets stuck in slow

I've never been stuck fast before though. The issue originally was that it just stalls out intermittently. We never replaced the IAC though. We towed it over there and apparently he charged the battery and started it up a couple times and ran it, then had it die out of nowhere. No real explanation.

The car has just been sitting for a little while, no real reason why the battery should die...
 
when it stalls, does it just up and die? does it restart immediately?
might be a crank or cam position sensor. they cause intermittent random stalling issues.

battery drain might be failing alternator, common in 1st gens, then gen 2 is alternator is a slightly better redesign and fits a 1st gen.
do you have the JBL audio system? some times the amp in the trunk won't turn off and will drain the battery.

congrats on the 95 LSC. thats a rare car. i've only ever seen one in person.
 
I figured if it were a sensor it would give me a code or some warning lights on the dash maybe.

My original JBL amp died and I replaced it with a newer OE amp not too long ago. I love the car, pearl on black and with my set of black saleens it looks ridiculous.

Did you get it started and check what the alt is doing?

Does it give you a pretty light show on the dash when it dies?

A bad alt. will kill a batt.
It is also very common for it to happen on a gen 1 as chris2523 pointed out.
 
I have consistently had no lights come up on the dash, or any codes come through the data center when it dies. Then after it dies I usually can't restart it for a couple tries, if it all.

The original theory on it being the IAC was that when it died I could usually open the hood and give the area around the IAC and the Air Intake a good couple whacks and have it start back up. But usually it would just drop dead and I wouldn't be able to start it again

I also have burned through a couple alternators in my life time aswell. Not too sure why but its just killed a couple of them. I replaced one originally and then had to continue replacing them under warranty. I figured it was just crappy parts

a bad battery can also take out a new alternator. have it load tested or something.

if it dies and wont restart, push on the accelerator a little bit. if it still won't start, i doubt its the iac.

Yep, but it sounds like he is doing the box store alternator run around.
Been there, done that.
You have to pull +14 amps

I guess this were I am confused.
No start meaning it will not turn over.... batt/alt issue.
Turns over but wont start....check fuel pressure/spark.

Not sure what OP means by "I usually can't restart it"

Sorry, it's been dropping dead at start and in the middle of driving continuously for a month or two now. Then it usually just wont restart at all. Sometimes I can try it 6 or 7 times and it will finally restart at the very end. But other times I had to just leave it and come back to it later...
 
He hasn't been able to get it running long enough to check the alternator, and he's hooked his scanner up to it and cant get any codes from the computer.

Ok...explain restart
Turns over but wont start?

Wont turn over?

There is a big difference between the two.

If it wont turn over I would blame the starter solenoid if the batt. is charged.
They get baked down were they are at.

If it turns over and wont start check spark and fuel pressure.
 
Originally it was dead in my driveway and wouldn't turn over.

Recharged the battery, and now it starts intermittently and stays dead sometimes as well

Spark plugs are brand new and when it starts the fuel pressure seems to be fine

However, he charged the battery on Friday, and this morning. After not being driven any since the battery is dead again and he is recharging it but hasn't been able to restart it.

I am easily confused :confused:.

If it was me I would install a new or known good batt.
Get it started check alt charging amps.

When describing the problem use the terms "turns over but wont start" or "car wont turn over".

Its important to know to trouble shoot the issues your having.

Good luck these cars can be a pain.
 
so after some time messing with the car and going back and forth with my mechanic

I mentioned my VCRM (VCM?) was replaced about 6 months ago so he went outside and gave it a good whack and started it right up

so the part is still under a 1 year warranty but the company they got it from doesn't have another. Although I believe my mechanic will still honor their warranty if I find another.

Anyone know where I might be able to get a part like this?

Or maybe information on rebuilding one?
