I emailed them asking if my power goal was attainable and this was their response.

HI Kevin, stage 2 head porting, set of mild comp cams. Longtubes and a tune will net you roughly 75-95 RWHP if done correctly. You power goal is very attainable, even with the auto and still be streetable! Please let us know how we can help!

Basically I was trying to find the most reliable/streetable horsepower I could find and this is what they told me.

The stage 2 porting they offer seems to be a great deal if I grab some junkyard heads and have them done while I still drive whatever mark I buy around.
 
They are a bit optomistic. I would ask for some dyno sheets to back that up. Our heads already flow more then the engine can handle without a blower so I dont see porting adding much but if I were optomistic I would say:
Ported heads= 15hp
Cams=10-12hp
Mid length headers=9hp
Tune=18hp

So maybe 55 more hp I guess.

Well when I had my Ram I put some cheap longtubes on it and another guy over on dodge forums showed my a dyno sheet that showed a 27hp/44 ft lbs increase on a stock motor just from the longtubes. I would get full length longtubes.

The head porting with a Cobra intake manifold and mild cam set would all work very well together.

I am guessing that I would at least hit 270rwhp with that setup.

I agree though, places that want to sell their products do give you numbers in the best case scenario.

I think the numbers above are very realistic, and cams on a N/A car and the work needed to time 4 cams is in my opinion is not worth it. You're looking at big buxs just for MAYBE 55 HP you could gain atleast double that with a snail or roots at what it would cost for those N/A parts alone.

I am looking at around 3k for all that. A roots or snail style blower is going to cost a lot more than that.
 
IMHO MMRs claims are not completely out of line. On a Mustang I believe it however the Mark should lose a little more through the drivetrain and a more restrictive exhaust(there are no long tubes for the Mark, the Kooks headers are more of a mid length). I would expect you could get over 300rwhp with ported heads/cams/intake. Not cheap though even if you do the work yourself. Cams/springs/retainers alone will run you $1500 or more.

You honestly believe cams and ported heads are worth less then 30rwhp when setup and tuned properly?
 
After reading the responses in this thread I spoke with Geno about supercharging and I am doing a bit more research on both. I would still go with cams and a p&p job on the heads with the supercharging.
 
No no, I am talking to Dez Racing at the moment about supercharging the stock long block with bolt ons and the port work and cams and the power I would be looking at, Mike Dez is an awesome ford tuner.

And the guy is blowing smoke up your ass. I have seen 6 different dyno runs on Hemi Charger/Challenger/300C and in every case it was no where near that. The best I saw was long tubes, cat back, CAI and tune to add 22hp and 29ftlb tq.
And nobody makes a long tube for the Mark. But I do believe you can knock on 300 rwhp door.

Mild cams, yes. Also the block can only flow so much air, the heads can flow more then the cilinders can so its down to port velocity. Porting a B head is not gonna increase that velocity.
Now mild cames can give 10-12 hp but so can having your stock cams degreed by a pro. And I am saying someone who really knows Ford 4v motors. My 96 Cobra made 289 RWHP and after spending $600 to have the cams degreed (I was curious and wanted to settle that argument in my head) and the car made 299.8 RWHP with ONLY the cam timing corrected.
Now larger cams will allow a 25+ HP increase but the engine will idle like crap and lose power below 3500 like a mofo.
 
Laser sorry it was not a hemi ram it was a 1996 Dodge Indy Ram with the 360 magnum.

I didn't realize that the kooks headers were not full length :/.

Oh well looks like I need to read some more. ;)
 
Oh, yeah the 360/318 saw big improvements from exhaust and intake. Dodge was overly restrictive on those engines. My bad.

Ya I just brought it up because long tubes on pretty much everything is worth it. Either way I need to figure out what my plan of attack is.

Most 4Vs will pick up some power by degreeing the stock cames I'll agree. I won't argue your going to be pushing the powerband up that gear/stall should be considered manditory either.

The Mark intake cams are the same as 03 Cobra cams and give up over 10 deg duration over 96-98 Cobra cams. Granted we are talking tumble port heads now but Mach1 guys typically see 15rwhp or more with just 96-98 Cobra intake cams. What do you consider mild cams?
 
Now I am no expert but I read allot and do a ton of research. The 03/04 Cobra cams are not the same as Mark Cams. The Mark has the same cam profile as the 97-98 Cobras. The Mach/NA Cobra guys making big power a couple years ago before there were many aftermarket cams available would use 96 Cobra cams. The 96 Cobra cam had a hair more duration and lift but my understanding was Ford found a cheaper place to make future cams and they are a little more mild.

I have been in the Mustang 4V community for 12 years and learned a ton about them but ill admit I am still learning quite a bit about the Marks and know much less then I dont know. :D
 
Laser you are right, but the only difference with the 96 cams and the 97-98 cam is the intake cam, the exhaust cam is the same.

I tried getting a set of 96 cobra cams from ford but everyone only had exhaust cams available, go figure.
