Just dropped off my 97 base at volusia drivetrain located here in daytona beach, florida. Im getting my track lock rebuilt, 4.10s installed, a new balanced 93 1 piece driveshaft i just got new u joints installed on, poly carrier bushings, and a new cv axle installed today for only 350$ with me supplying the parts. Cant wait to see how much quicker the car will feel

yep dropped it off today at 8:30, time who owns and works at volusia drivetrain is a super knowledgable super friendly guy, and very honest. i know i will get a great job done, he set up the centersection for my dads drag car. I should have the mark back today or monday, i would love to meet up and see that pretty white Lsc you have ! :)

Only $350 for labor? You his best friend or something? I *wish* I could ever run into a shop that reasonable.

I just bought all new control arms, tie rods, etc, both sides, for my 97. My mechanic said he will install it all for $150. I will then have to take it in for the front end alignment but i still thought a pretty good deal. One of the few people i trust on my Mark

Travis, sounds like you will be having a bit more fun in no time. I suggest a tune next after all of this work is done. That will get your car dialed in real nicely with the 4.10s and your car won't top out at 95mph. Lol. ;)

Are you also replacing the OSS sensor gear on the tranny with the proper one? I've used the 23 tooth black for both my 4.10s and the 4.30s I have in the car now. You'll want the proper gear for that sensor or you will have weird shifting. (Very early into overdrive would be my first guess)

kstromberg- I wasnt aware you had to replace a OSS sensor on a gen 2 car while doing a gear swap. I will have my tranny serviced soon, am i screwed until then? i was gonna add the boc tailshaft, jmod, epc and tcc solenoids, and a new mlps sensor, cooler, and new finned aluminum pan. i already have the cooler and j-mod so it shouldnt be too long until i can afford everything else. And then the perfect chrome directionals i have can go on!

Rich - I would love to meet up with you and elliot and see your awesome Mark viii's! text me and we will see if we can make something happen. lol mine will look so crappy compared to your guys' cars though

Travis, hit up a local speed shop for that small plastic gear. You want the 23-tooth black. It should only cost about $10. It goes inside of the OSS sensor on the outside of the tranny on the driver's side more towards the back on the tailshaft. One bolt secures it with a connector. Pull the sensor out of that hole, remove the gear inside of it currently and replace it with the new gear same orientation as the last one. There is one retaining clip that has to come off. You'll see it. Just jack the car up on one side enough to reach it. VERY EASY. (secure the car with a jackstand for safety)

That gear controls shift schedule with the transmission based on the rotational speed of the output shaft. So yes, you will need the proper plastic gear to calibrate for your different rear gear.

Can i cause any damage by not changing this plastic gear right now or am i fine for a few weeks? its just gonna be affecting my speedo and shift points right? or is it gonna make extra strain on my tranny because of the incorrect shift points and different rpms they should be occuring at

won't affect the speedo on a gen 2.
i assume it will mess with the shift points though. they will be early.

Exactly. The Gen2 speedo works off of the wheel speed sensors. The OSS sensor on the side of the transmission is completely separate from the speedo and controls the shift schedule with the transmission. With that said, the proper plastic gear needs to be put into that sensor when the rear gear is changed in order to avoid driveability issues with the shifting. (With 4.10s it will be HORRIBLE)

Travis, your transmission will not be at risk but it will be very annoying to drive until you get that done. Like I said, it is literally a 3 minute job on a hoist with a socket, and probably a small pick to release the retaining clip which holds the plastic gear in place. If you can jack the car up on that side, you can reach that sensor and it is still a 3 minute job. Don't be alarmed when your car drives like poop. Once that plastic gear is in there, it will be fine. But until then like Chris said, EARLY shifting and the car will be a DOG.
