So...brakes, average life for you?

I've got 24,300 miles on my car and my front brakes already need to be replaced. Is that about right for an LS8? I've had other cars that went 60,000+ before brakes needed to be replaced. At any rate, I just wanted to get everyone's experience. I ordered new brakes, not Motorcraft but the higher quality Ford pads. Anyone else using these pads or prefer something different?

I think that alot of maintanence issues, such as brakes, tires and things of this nature have more to do with driving style and with where you live than anything else. If you live in a city with alot of stop-and-go traffic, your brakes will wear much quicker than in a rural area with fewer stops per mile of travel. How quick you take your corners, and how much you lay on the gas or how often you check tire pressure will have an impact with how long you can expect a set of tires to last.
 
Fronts on my 2004 LS8 also lasted less than 30k, but that was almost all city stop-n-go. The dealer agreed to split the cost on the pads since it was so early.
 
I am on my fifth set of brake pads - 44,000 miles on the clock.

I found that the rears wear first if you drive with traction control on all the time.
 
Got about 63-64k out of the fronts and just did my rears at 79k. Guess I drive on the highway alot.

My rears were uneven side to side with my passenger dying first, when I did the drivers side there was still plenty of pad left. How often your traction control kicks in is likely going to wear the rears quicker.
 
As posted above, I think a lot of it is how you drive and under what conditions. As a comparison, on my 2003, the rear brakes needed to be replaced at about 25K miles, so your mileage is about right. The front brakes, however, were never replaced in the 3 years I owned the car.

Have you checked your rear brake pads? You should keep an eye on this since the traction control and stability systems tend to use the rear brakes without you knowing about it. I believe this is what causes the rear pads to go out first on the 03+ cars.

Rear brakes are fine, both sides are green as noted on my multi-point inspection when the oil was changed. My front left had about 1mm left on the pad and the front right had about 5mm left. I was a little puzzled since I don't usually drive my LS hard at all. Thanks for the advice.
 
I had to do brakes at 50k, the pads were hard enough they ate the rotors too- so I ran them as long as possible, and I replaced all 4 rotors and all pads. It was about 300 for parts and 6 hours of my time in the garage.
 
40k front 92 rear still going

average driving, replaced fronts at 40k, rear still going at 92k
 
Dealer told me they 'did' the brakes at my last oil change---40K miles. I replaced the fronts again at about 85-90, and at 107K I put ceramic-metallic on all four corners when I started land-speed racing. The pads I took off were all good, with plenty of wear left.

got about 5% life left up front and 10% in back and i'm at 67k miles on original ford parts. the squeaking and response are terrible but i've been a bad owner lately and have been neglecting it. just ordered R1 concepts drilled/slotted rotors for front and rear and a full set of Porterfield R4-S pads to make up for it. i know the car will love them ;)
