the scent in fuel is an addative, when you have lower levels of fuel in the tank it sloshes around more, which increases the smell.
and you may have some seepage from the pump gasket or hoses, they are rubber and do wear out

drop your evap tray and empty the gas out of your charcoal canisters in the evap tray.

pull your trunk matting up and see if the rubber grommets for your abs wires and air ride tubbing are seated properly on the body.
