slick 50 high mileage treatment

If you have a high milage trans DO NOT FLUSH OR ADD DETERGENTS TO IT!!!! Unless you want to break up all sh*t in it and end up rebuilding or replacing the transmission.
 
the transmission has been rebuilt before. do you know why it would shutter when shifting at lower rpms, a transmission guy says it seems like it just need to be serviced and have the filter changed. does that sound right?
 
its acting like it doesnt know if it wants to shift or stay in the same gear so it shutters.
 
new filter and Mercon V fluid change wont hurt it. Than again I'm not a believer in the whole "once you flush a trans you'll blow it up" rumor. In my expierence and opinion your worse off by not flushing/draining/filling....whatever your preferance. Ford put out the mileage recommendations for a reason. I'm a service-aholic when it comes to maintenance of my vehicles.
 
The reasoning behind the dont flush it is this, as a transmission wears all the loose metal shavings and clutch material from the gears/clutches ends up in the Tourqe converter. Since the converter spins non stop when the car is running all the loose material is packed into the fins of the convertor by centrifugal force. When you add clean fluid or treatment it has alot of fresh detergents in it that break up the deposits of junk in the Tourqe converter sending it right through the transmission and destorying seals,clutch disks and gears. Hence the reason if you do not know the history of a high milage transmission you are better off leaving it alone, now if its slipping or doing sh*t it shouldnt be, go ahead and do it because if it could fix it or kill it. Either way you would have had to fix it to begin with.
 
A couple years ago I had the fluid in the LS changed because I thought it was due. It started leaking and shifting bad after I had the change done. I thought I screwed myself, it was the first time I'd ever had any of my cars transmissions serviced. Turned out I had over a gallon of extra fluid, so I went to the dealer and had it flushed properly and has been fine ever since. GL :D

This is normal when the transmission is about to go out. The next thing it will start doing is not going back to 1st gear when you come to a stop sign or red light. Your torque converter is about shot. Try to find another transmission that is 98 or above and swap the electrical internals and then replace.

It's very simple to do, especially if you have the transmission out and upside down. The internal swap could be done in 20 minutes. The swap can be done or you can re-pin your wiring harness to make it work. I chose the internal electrical swap.
 
I don't know about Slick 50, but I use Muscle Products MT-10 in the engine, transmission and rear end.
 
I use tx7 in my gear box, powersteering, and engine, but I refuse to put anything other than castrol mercon v in my transmission. I've back flushed my trans properly with an rti trans fluid machine at my work but I always supply my own fluid. I do the complete flush usually 20qts through every 30,000miles. Between every 100% fluid flush I change my filters, in-line aftermarket and the one inside the trans. I use only motorcraft trans filters. The only trans problem I've ever had was a day where it neutraled out twice, each time while making a hard turn. The problem was remedied by topping off the fluid, 3/4 quart low, and changing the extension housing seal and dipstick tube o-ring. Now that it doesn't leak I never have to top it off and it's never mis-shifted since.
 
if i drop the trans pan and replace the filter how many qts does it take to fil lback up or how much is a tranny flush?
 
yea i dont think im gonna chance it and do a flush but im gonna drop the pan and change the filter

Yeppers! I use Lucas in all my vehicles - both in the transmissions and engines. I also have Slick50 engine treatment in all my vehicles. Say what you will, but I swear by that stuff. I've seen it in action. And it works.
