when i get my true dual exhaust done im going to get the 2.5 inch custom exhast tubing kit from mandrelexhaustsystems.com -- my dilemma, nobody will remove the stupid 3rd cat and put an x-pipe in. if a place would just remove the 3rd cat, i can run the x-pipe from them, and the exhaust kit, with flowmaster 40s at the end.. it will be a lot louder than what i have now, it will definately sound more agressive. can anyone recommend a shop on staten island new york, or within 20-30 miles of zip code 10314 that can remove the 3rd cat and install an x-pipe followed by the dual exhaust? this is so annoying because they won't take out the damn 3rd cat.

oh i had no clue, but, will i pass inspection? if the car is under a 95 they don't put it on the lift from what i was told, mines a 95 so it'll be up there. think a shop that does custom exhaust and inspection would let me get away with it? the exhaust from LMS, i see it has 2 x-pipes, is that in place of the third cat? i don't see how people pass inspection in NY with the 3rd cat cut out. ill have to look around for a place that does custom exhaust

If you're really paranoid about it, you can do what I did to my TBird and ram the guts out of the 3rd cat; that way it looks stock.

There is no way the cars computer can tell the 3rd cat is gone. The only way to fail would be if they do a visual check. If they know to look for it and its not there then problem.

well im not really paranoid but how else can i get a true dual exhaust then without removing the 3rd cat?

Get a third cat off an LSC (it's dual-in, dual-out), ram it out, use it with an x pipe behind it and the emissions police can't harass you cause it looks perfectly stock.

i sent Geno over at LMS an email to see what he says. thanks for the help here guys

The concern is will it pass visual, out here they look under all cars 95 and older, and 96+ over 8500gvw for cats during the emissions test. However take this for what it's worth. I've run frozen boost "cats", hollowed factory cats, and cars with 2 cats instead of 4 or 6 without issues. Inspectors out here look underneath, see a cat and say good enough. They don't bust out some book with diagrams and count how many it's supposed to have. I'd ask an emissions station near you what the standards are, whether they look for a certain number or not and go from there.

From my experience it's rare to have them look under the car for a cat in new york, unless its a runaway named fluffy. Har d har har. I live on Staten Island as well and there are shops that will do what you want.

Personally, I don't worry about it. All my vehicles are registered in a non OBD-II county so it doesn't matter if they have cats or CEL's or whatever. As long as the lights and signals work, I'm good to go:D

However, in my experience, removing the 3rd cat on an OBD-I or -II Mark VIII will not throw a code. There's no O2 sensor down stream of the 3rd cat so the computer can't tell if it's there or not. And as far as I've been told, with true dual exhaust, as long as the exhaust has at least one cat per bank of cylinders you're good to go in a visual inspection.

Emissions tests........... ha!

My Mark is straight piped. I'll be doing 'real' exhaust next year.

Only thing I own w/ cats is my ranger.... cuz I'm payin on it.....

My '94 GT has an offroad H and single chamber flowmasters w/ tailpipes.... screw cats!! Lol

i think ill just run the 2 and delete third as well, as long as it passes theres no visiual inspection where i go

move to florida, no inspection, hell most people dont even have a license, or speaka english

The last time I got one of my cars inspected, the guy told me that NC may be doing away with inspections within the next couple of years. If that happens, I'll be a happy little camper! There won't be a catalytic converter on any of my vehicles if that happens. I'll get a few O2 sensor extenders and cut 'em all off!

Wow this made me feel a helluva lot better. V tally where in si you at if you don't mind me asking? I'm by the mall. what shop do you recommend going to on si? I went to joeys on hylan or victory I forgot, never going there again, he was like I'm not making that car loud, what a moron, I don't get people sometimes, your gonna get paid lol.

I'm in Great Kills, if a shop doesen't know you, they won't do the work you are asking for. Bring the car by greenridge plaza one night, I'm there most thursdays and fridays, a lot of people meet up there with some interesting cars, usually after 11pm until around 5am.
