Shruddering & stalls (SOMETIMES)

Ok, so my 93 started giving my wife an issue 3 weeks ago. She says it happens a couple times p/week. It also happened to me 2 weeks ago then again today. Has nothing to do with the temp of the car. It could be in the morning or just after 5 minutes after turning off the car...

When I start the car, it idles VERY rough & immedeately stalls out. You start it up again & it does the same thing. The 3rd time you start it, it starts rough but then smooths out! I replaced the IAC sensor last year & replaced the TPS twice last year as well. Ofcourse the symptoms last year were quite diferrent so could this be something else or once again my 93's sensor's are fvcking with my brain!:mad:

Man, it could be the fuel filter or the MAF needs to be cleaned. The fuel pump may be ready to play out on you. Not sure if you disconnected the battery when replacing the TPS or not but it has been suggested to do that.

3rd cat could be clogging up ~shrugs~ Just some ideas for you.
 
Check fuel pressure... how is it at high rpm? feel strong? how long has it been since you changed the coils?

Ultimatesvt, your symptoms sound exactly the same as what has happened to me once before. I noticed that if I drive my car around alot throughout the day (running errands, making several trips a shutting it off each time) I noticed if I go to restart the car after all that driving it will surge and bog down for a few seconds upon start up and then smooth out, and one time it actually died when it bogged down far enough and restarted it and died again, the third time I revved it up to 1500 rpm for a few seconds, let off the throttle and it idled normal and smooth..

I haven't really tried diagnosing it at all since it has only done it two or three times and only died the one time..but it seems like it only does It like I said after driving a lot so I'm thinking it has something to do with maybe the fuel pump tiring out and getting overheated maybe..causing low fuel pressure initially upon start up..

I believe the fuel pump theory also relates to another issue I had before where after driving the car for a while and shutting it off then trying to restart it shortly after it would crank abnormally long before it would fire..so I tried turning the key to the on position and holding it there for a few seconds before cranking it over and it fired right away with no hesitation...so I'm thinking it has something to do with the fuel pump tiring out.

Also no check engine lights ever, and car runs as smooth as butter otherwise, no hesitation or missing at any rpm range.

My '93 does the exact same thing under the same conditions. I have a new fuel pump and fuel filter. It does it so infrequently that to me it's not worth looking into. I'm sure it could use new plugs. I don't know how many miles were on them before I bought the car but my son put 32000 miles on it in one year. Because of the new fuel pump and filter, I'm leaning toward bad plugs or tired coils.
