Ok, I have read and searched and want to make sure that I need the Xcal2 to get better line pressure to make the SST shift happen when you actually move the shifter. Does this piggyback or splice into the wiring? I don't understand why good shifts wouldn't have been this way in the first place from the factory. Has anyone used one of these Trans-go shift kits or something similar? http://www.transgo.com/sk_ford.php

Yes, get the SCT and a decent tune. That is all you need. It came like this from the factory because the geniuses at Ford couldn't decide if the car should be targeted at old ladies, or yuppies. They tried to go after both the Buick market and the BMW market at the same time.

Agreed thata good tune makes big difference on the shifting.

One thing to try first - is to erase your 'adaptive strategy' and have the car re-learn how you like to drive. You erase it by disconnecitng the battery (leave it sit for 20mins) and then drive it like you want to. The car then re-learns your driving style and your shifts....

It can make quite the difference if your car has gone a while without re-learning - or if you are not the frist owner and have not re-learned.

Harder the shift pressure the quicker the shift will happen after you command it to.

Stock the 1-2 shift will take at least 500rpm to actually shift after you slap the shifter. You get better at it. Shift at or just before 6k and you should get redline shifts. 2-3 willtake less time 3-4 less...etc.

Even with a tune you still have some reaction time by the car, just not as much.

Edit: I shouldn't say 2-3 and 3-4 take less time, you just go though fewer rpms as your going into slower gears(spend more time in) if you know whet I mean.

IIRC doesn't the LS computer learn your shifting and driving patterns?

I'll give the battery disconnect a try. Based on what I have read and the sluggish shifts that the car has, I always feel the tranny is a fragile item.

DO THIS AFTER A TUNE OR BEFORE? if i dont have a tune and do this it will help too no?

To a degree but it is nowhere even in the same universe as what an actual full custom tune does for the shifting of a vehicle. I am sure that anyone here who is running a custom tune in their LS will agree.

I don't think its as weak as everyone thought... its holding up to Quik's SC. so far :P

I have been saying this exact thing for years now. No one wanted to believe for a long time but it is starting to soak in. I am not claiming that the 5R55S and N transmissions are tough bastards but with the proper tuning they can hold a pretty good amount of power.

When you reflash the PCM the adaptive will automatically be reset. No need for any separate action there.

Jeeze sorry for the 15 posts back to back in here. I look like some sort of spammer or something. Next time I will try to keep all my replies to one post.

5R55 - that's 550 lb-ft of torque - so depending where you hit on your torque curve when the convertor locks up (and goes 1:1) you have lots of room - since you will not be at peak torque and the convertor will not be at peak multipler.

the diff and the torque convertor may be the weak points....

Yes, I believe it is the slow shifts that causes everyone to believe the trans is weak. That was my impression the first time I drove an LS. I assumed that I needed to baby it. That is until Quik and ILLS set me straight.
