Ok this isn't Lincoln related, but...

The director of my old department wants me to fix his Ford Ranger. He's a well connected guy so I want to make sure I'm thinking correctly on the issue.

The problem is that under braking the pedal pulsates rhythmically with the truck's speed.

Since the steering wheel does not shake I ruled out warped front rotors.

Since the pedal pulsates I'm thinking the rear drums need to be turned and the shoes adjusted.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't rule out warped rotors just because the steering wheel isn't shaking. Depending on who put the tires on last, the rims could have been over torqued or cheap rotors were used when put on before. This could also be a rust issue on the rotors and drums if it has been setting. I really doubt it had anything to do with the drums but having them turned also wouldn't hurt if they have room to be turned. New OEM rotors and using the right amount of torque when putting the wheel back on should stop the pulse.

id say rear, the old rule was if the wheel shakes-front / pedal pulsates-rear. ive never seen just the pedal for the front with no wheel shake, but plenty with both if the fronts are bad enough.
