...sorry, i have noobish questions for any of you guys with a SCT tune...

Here is the deal... my buddy i work with just got a Marauder. Its pretty sick, its a lil too big and plain for my taste... but thats just me. Now, he wants to get the SCT SF3 tuner for his Marauder, and as you all know, the turner he needs for his Marauder will work on my LS :D. So long story short... he has offered to tune my LS - if i can get my hands on a good tune for the LS of course.

My question is... can it be done?...can u use one SCT tuner to tune more than one car? or does the tuner only work on one car at a time - in other words, does it lock in the tune until its reset or something....???

...AND IF... in some way its possible to use his SCT tuner on my LS... where should i begin to start looking for a good tune?...a tune that will boost my performance, but on the conservative side... not looking to create more headaches for myself, but a few more ponies would be nice - i think a few of mine have died over the years :shifty:

...Thank you all in advance, i know enough about wheels/tires and appearance stuff to get by... but this is outta my league....:(

The hand held is VIN locked to the car that's tuned. So no, you can't use his tuner for anything other than checking trouble codes unless he reverts his car back to a stock tune.

the SF3 holds canned tunes loaded by sct
the X3 holds custom tunes

I got my SCT X3 from Torrie at fastpartsnetwork & I'm very please with his custom tunes he provided. Shipping was VERY fast as well & he has been VERY helpful with any questions I've had. And as the others said the tuner is locked to a car once it's tuned & will not work on another car unless that car is put back to stock. I also believe after 5 times the tuner is locked to that specific vehicle. (could be wrong though)

after 5 times you have to send it to SCT pay shipping both ways,+ 150.00 unlock fee

I actually have a question for you on this if you know...

After it's locked can it be used unlimited times on the car it's locked to? For example I only use it for my LS, but when I take my car to the dealership I set it back to stock & when I'm done I put the tune back on so once I do this 5 times can I still do this when I go to the dealership even after the 5th time?

Thanks for your help on this.

aww sh*t...i had a feeling it might work that way...

thanks for the quick answer NYC, quick question though, i know you had a Gen2 LS, but in you opinion...was the tuner worth it?

I know I'm not NYC, but for me it is well worth it without question. Like I said in a previous reply to you I got a custom tune from Torrie & for me it is a HUGE difference in performance. Everything from the response to the shifting of the tranny is night & day. I thought I liked my car before & now I like it even more.:D

yes..unlimited on the same vehicle
and returning to stock does not use an unlock, flashing a different car is what uses the unlocks.

I got a question about the SCT units... when it says customizeable shift points, how does that work? Would I be able to physically change these settings or are the included tunes my only option?

I cannot stand the stock shift points on the LS... I am used to cars shifting into 2nd earlier but it feels like my LS is hitting a higher RPM before shifting into 2nd... and then it shifts into 3rd after only being in 2nd for 5 seconds...

Depends if the tuner programed your tunes to permitted change. My tunes from Torrie allows some minor adjustment to shift points and line pressure.

..i didnt mean that i only wanted NYC's opinion...i was responding to his first post...and i stepped away from my computer for a minute, when i got back i hit "post" - not knowing everyone else had responded...

...with that said, i didnt mean to offend anyone... and by all means if anyone has input on the benefits of tune/no tune please share!!:) ...just please base your input on experience, not opinion - thanks :D

and yea, it must be a SCT x3 tuner because my buddy was taking about custom tunes and what not... sorry about the sf3 confusion, my unfamiliarity with this stuff is embarrassing - sorry guys... and im getting a consensus that a SCT X3 from Torrie at fastpartsnetwork is the way to go as far as tuning the LS... correct?

I was wondering the same thing. Good to know. I was scared to set it back to stock and have to pay to unlock it again after the 5th time

Also, my opinion which is from experience is that it is WORTH it! My tranny was hitting hard, almost to the point where I wanted to get a different car until I could save up to fix it. I got the tune and it did wonders for the tranny. Shifts a lot nicer, faster, smoother, Hits here and there but not as bad or often as before. The car felt a lot more responsive and I loved the new improvements. If I were to go back and choose to buy it or not, I would definitely buy the sct tuner again. Next stop, Dyno tune.

I wouldn't say so. A true dyno tune is worth every penny. I learned that with the 300. The difference between the canned Predator tune I was running and a real dyno tune was about 30 peak horsepower to the wheels. Best money I ever spent. I would have to think the LS would benefit similarly.
