Screamin demon coils or MSD?

What I think is if you are pushing under 400 hp then the stockers are just as good as a performance one. I think the only benifit of a "hotter" coil would be on a blown application where the blower/turbo has the ability to blow out a weak spark..

Roadboss is a great example.
500+ HP forced induction and stock coils.

I know understand why you said "warm fuzzy feeling" about aftermarket coils. If I do end up getting them, it will be for that updated look, if I get them at all.

well that's ok,
keeping in mind what I said about coils being ran while "bridged".

There are two voltages supplied by a coil
"starting voltage" which is about 20,000 volts higher than "running voltage".
the starting voltage is there to "light off" a cold combustion chamber.

The aftermarket companys internally bridge the coil so it runs on "start up" voltage "all the time".

When you do this, two things occur.
1. the coils wear out faster
2. the additional voltage output decreases the coils "dwell time" which is the time the coil requires to "refill" and "discharge".

Decreased dwell time increases the chances of a missfire, because the coil doesnt have sufficient time to "recharge" itself.

all in all, after all is said and done.. aftermarket coils dont do squat.

If it were me, I'd paint a set of stocker whatever color gives you the warm fuzzy feeling and be happy with the longetivity and dependability of the stock coil.

My 93 has 87,000 miles on it with the original coil packs, thinking about replacing them with new stock ones.
Found a good price for them on Amazon.

David

Before you order from Amazon, atleast "compare" the price available from Max @ www.fivestarford.com (800) 866 1520 ext 236

Generally max comes in better or right at ANY price you can find on the web.

I would pay MORE to get my stuff from max, but 100% of the time his prices are cheaper.

Also consider that Max supports our community and Amazon..meh not so much does ANYTHING for LVC

try to support those that support you

+1

Max has good prices and will put up with my 10 emails about parts and prices etc before i place an order.

My latest "max story".

I called him because my car broke both alternator bolts.
He said he had em, and could get them right out to me..which made me happy!

Then he said "hold on" let me see if I can find some close to you, so you dont have to wait for them.
couple of second later he told me the dealership about 4 miles away had em.

So I go down there, armed WITH the part number max gives me.
The counter guy at the local dealer breathed a heavy sigh when I said I had the part number and insisted that "he look up the part" on his computer.

2-3 minutes later he says.. "nope, dont got em".

so while I'm standing their I hit "redial" and call Max back and tell him
that this guy cant seem to find them, but a dealer in arizona can SEE them on his system.
Max tells me to give the guy that part number {as mentioned previously)

The parts counter guy takes it, goes back in the back and returns in 2-3 more minutes and chunks the bolts on the counter.

Max talked himself out of a sale, and had to talk another ford guy into the sale.

max rox!

Max also carries the Ford Racing Parts stuff as well, and is very competitive.

As far as flame out in SC engines is concerned you will find that gap reduction becomes critical to a point, and then when really high boost rates (18lbs +) come into play another choice comes into play with the ignition systems.
