Hi all,

I just wanted to introduce myself as I just registered yesterday, and bought an '00 LS8 non sport last Friday. Sort of a silver tan? Not sure of the proper color name. I bought it from a friend that I've been in school with for two years. 123K on it, and I paid $6500.

I have an H3 also right now, and my last 3 vehicles were two Altima 3.5SE's and an SE-R. The SE-R met an untimely visit with a ditch, and $7K later I decided it was time to "slow down....."

I'm glad to find you all here, because the other Lincoln related forums I've found were pretty dormant. I was really active over at www.altimas.net/forum (same S/N) and hope to learn a lot here. Over there was was telling/explaining, here... I think I'll be asking!

Hardware and mechanics are always more important, but my first question is sort of superficial-- related to what I'd call the annoying/inadequate cup holder in the 00. I searched and didn't find anyone mentioning it. Has anyone modified it to be a single, bigger cup holder? Any drop in replacements or mod FAQ?

I bought this car as something to drive to work, a little fun but really to avoid the dents & scrapes on the H3. People I am with keep opening the doors into metal poles, scraping along the side, etc. Not that it helps that I know who did stuff, it still happens....

So far I've ordered replacement headlamp assemblies, fogs, K&N and new floor mats. The front lenses were so scraped up they almost looked hazed, and the right one had the notorious water leak. Overall, the paint, and especially the front bumper of this car is in better shape than my Altimas were at 12K. The paint is super soft on nissans, or the plastic that the front bumper is made with, or something.

I need a sun roof in the worst way, and it doesn't have one, so I'm thinking about that. The back bumper has a few scrape ups that I may consider getting fixed. A tiny bubble spot on the corner of the trunk lid near the bumper, and a spot on the hood. Other than that, the car seems to be in great shape.

Planning on giving it more of a hardware once over and refurb if necessary when I finish and graduate my MBA program (8 days).

I'm starting to ramble here, so anyway..... It's nice to be here.

I hate that damn cup holder!

If you do a search, you'll find that you can swap out the whole console for a newer model LS console and get rid of that annoying cup holder issue. Mine was fine till the dealership boys opened it up to fix the select shift. Then it was one of those parts that never go back to normal.

As for the rest, it sounds reasonable. I myself would take care of the cosmetics and outside of the car tho. You will be a lot more pleased/confident/proud if you get a good detail and have any scratches and such taken care of.

be careful getting an aftermarket sunroof...........horror story waiting to happen

many dealers have a local shop put in a 'factory like' moon roof - and it's very near in OEM - quality and warranty. The cost is usually close to the factory option - $1,300 - $1,700.

We had one in our 2001 (from ASC) and my only issues were that it didn't function like the factory (auto open/close with the remote and it didn't have some of the "options") and it was noisier than the factory one we have in the '06. Other than that it was just fine.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone. I did get a quote today for the roof, $1400, in the roof, motorized, etc. It is pricey, 3 year full warranty.

I may hit some replacement wheels/tires first. And thanks for the tip on the center console I'll have to look into that!

the console

I found the other thread about the console. Upon some more research, I think 2000+ works for 01 and 02, and the center console started having an electronic parking brake in it in 2003.

So...... I have spent quite a bit of time trying to locate a 2001 or 2002 center console, tan. I think its called expresso, from some of the sites I hit.

I'm challenging anyone on the net to find an expresso 2001 or 2002 console, because I don't think it can be found. Ebay, all the parts sites, etc. I've been to everywhere I can find. Its interesting how so many of them use the same search engine. I find the console listed, right color, but it will never list a part or price.

I haven't gone so far as to email the salvage places, but if you suggest one, I may try that. Surely I won't have to buy this directly from the dealer.....

Let the challenge begin! I will keep at it myself.

Webasto makes most of the sun roofs for Ford. They have a website. If I was going aftermarket I would probably get a shop that has the Webastos.

Good Luck,

I went to the greenleaf link and its landscapeing???

And car-parts dont have the center console. Or do they? I couldnt find it.

I got mine off ebay, you kind of just have to wait for it to come up... heres a pic of after and before, wayyy better than the old one.

Does anyone else think the park brake handle being on the passenger side is just plain retarded?

There is a pretty good reason it's on that side. One of the engineers told a group of us but the reason but it escapes me. IIRC, it had something to do with space and the requirement to eliminate a foot brake.

Wow that is unreal better than the original center console. BY FAR. Just now catching up with this thread, hoping to get one ASAP.
