has anyone else had trouble with our search? you can never find what you want unless you know the thread name. we gotta be able to do something about this. its just frustrating for me when i spend 20 minutes looking for some really obvious info and nothing comes up. even if you type in key words it doent really ever get it right. am i alone here?

It sucks big time. I search fuel filter and I got air and oil filter stuff for at least a page.

you have to help the search out by narrowing down the search by only selecting the forum it might be in. I agree most search functions suck

Yup, narrowing it down helps, plus you can also opt to search thread titles only.

Sometimes, when bored, i just go to the forum index page, scroll to bottom and view the forum archive - i can then instantly see every thread title (in chronological order) for the forum. Makes for fast and easy reading.

I agree completely. Our search feature needs some type of simple directions. I have spent a lot of time usually rather fruitlessly. I could not even count how many times people have tried the search without any luck. I know most of the old timers have it down. But when people say they tried with no success, they're met with use the SEARCH. While for sure some people are lazy, there seems to me to be some room for improvement in this area. Overall the website is outstanding and kept under very good control(Mespock- Thx.) it could be even better. Gary in Elmira.

exactly. i love this site. i just hate having to ask "what my spark plug gap" should be, or "what is the wheel offset" or any number of other things that have been covered a million times, but you cant find when searching.

Add my name to the list. The search function needs improvement.

It should be made into a boolean search so you can tell the engine to find all words instead of any.

I agree.. I've searched title only for a specific word and still had to search through threads because the titles didn't hold any such word.

It seems it depends what you're searching for. Sometimes.. no problems. Sometimes... it takes a bunch of weeding. So regardless who says they don't have problems, if some have problems.. then maybe it needs to be looked over?

This.

For serious.

It seems to be some issue with vBulletin, I don't know if it can be done or not, but it would be nice.

i had problems the other day, wanted to know what year conti's had c heads, searched a couple pages of nothing to do with it where i found the info.

i searched under, continental heads, c heads conti heads c head swap (with spaces and also tried with +'s) and got numerous pages of nothing to do with a head

Alright here's how this works. When you search and put in multiple words, it finds threads with any of those words. There more words you add, the more results you will get, the results do not become more refined. I'm unaware of a way on this forum to search for all words instead of any. So when you searched for continental heads, it found all pages containing the word heads, and all pages containing the word continental.

When you searched for "c" heads, the "c" part is omitted, the engine won't accept anything under 4 letters long.

On these forums it is essential to at hit the advanced button and choose to search a particular forum (mark viii forum for example).
