rumble at highway speeds

Yup, rotting boots.

Those toe links are shot (top photo). You can order new ones for both sides around 70 bucks a piece, IIRC.

Second photo is your control arm(s).

new rear toe links didn't solve this. still have a slight rumble/vibration at 45-60mph.

You know there was a TSB on the rear half-shafts causing a vibration at those speeds. The cure is to replace the shafts with units with a different shape.

Couldn't find the tsb but I found a lot of articles about people with half-shaft related vibration from 45-60mph. None of them specified what type or shape shaft to replace with.

I would guess that any Ford parts counter would be able to tell you what the latest revised part # is for the half-shafts based on your year. Having worked at a Ford dealership, when a new part is released the obsolete parts are sent back to the warehouse, so they shouldn't have anything but the right half-shafts in stock.

IIRC, the new shafts are an "inverted" hour-glass shape where the center section bulges ever so slightly.

Question can anyone provide me with the MOOG rear end links and toe links for 2002 Lincoln ls V8? I checked rock auto all I see is parts for the front. Thanks a lot.

The moog sway bar end links are on Rock auto. They're listed right along with the front ones.

I don't think they make the rear toe links either. Really there's only a couple choices there. OEM, which is something like $140 a piece, some other non OEM ones that are $100 a piece and you lose the rear steering. And then the Deutch parts which you can get both pairs of toe links(with the passive rear wheel steering) AND end links for $140....

Anyways, for rear toe links either dealership or ebay.

New symptom.

I still have the rumble between 45-65. At night I can see headlights in my rearview mirror slowly zigzag. Also today I got a real vibration going a little over 70mph. I slowed down to 50mph and it went away. I was able to cruise smoothly at 72mph again. Second time this happened in the past 2 months.

I don't know if it is the rear CV half shafts but I'm probably going to replace them next while chasing this

New wheels? Tires?

Tires have about 3k on them. Rims were pretty straight. Only 2oz off on balance

Pretty straight? The LS is extremely sensitive to any abnormalities. After 3K miles the tire balance could be a little off. Doesn't take much.....

Again this morning when I got on the highway the vibration felt like I had a flat tire for about 1 mile. It went away right before I was going to pull off.

Time to look into those CV joints, or the steering column bearing that was posted in the TSB (if all the wheel bearings and ball joints are good).

Remember, you will get vibs for the first few miles, if it's anything like that its the wheels and is normal, if it's ridiculous vibrations at highway, then checking the steering column bearing shouldn't take more than an hour.

Keep us posted. I'm having a similar issue to find .

That sounds like flat-spotting. How are the front hubs? Check the shock mounts (don't laugh) and make sure the upper and lower bolts are TIGHT.
