Rough idle, loss of power (friends car)

Hey LSers

My buddy has a 2000 LS8, its idling rough, has loss of power, and I think he said it went into failsafe mode. I am going to pull the codes tomorrow, but he thinks the engine is slowing frying. It's getting worse and worse and I only drove it once so I don't know what to look at yet. He says it makes horrible noises and autozone pulled the codes and said possily coils or sparkplugs, any ideas? Anything common, like the iac valve on the marks?

COPs are the usual problem due to leaking valve cover gaskets.

very, very common. a quick search for vavle cover gaskets or COPS will yield 1000 threads. There is a tech article on the repair as well.
