Rims

What a weird question.

Umm surely you understand it depends on what the individual is trying to accomplish?

I think mine are pretty heavy, but I don't really care. I am not dragging my LS.

The correct term is wheels, not rims. Im going for lightweight next go around.

I will be going for looks. I think most go for look.

wierd? whats wierd to me is people hooking up exhaust systems and CAI for performance then they put heavy 20 inch "wheels" which makes the car slower and can mess up things like the transmission, thats why i was wondering if people thought about how much "wheels" weighed before buying the, or is it just based on looks and dimensions - i may be looking for 18's that weigh the same as the factory 17's thats why im interested

I can understand where you are coming from. I almost bet that most people just by rims based off of their looks and finishes. Now there are some who take into account the weight of the rim but they are few and beyond. If you look at the aftermarket wheel selection and the sizes that are available today, they are not light. So mostly people just buy rims for their looks. Unless you are building a drag racer or something. Just my two cents. But that's a smart move on your behalf to find lighter rims which in turn will give you better performance from the car.

I completely agree. One thing to note is that even if the 18" wheel weighs that same as a 17" wheel you will still get a slight performance drop because the weight is going to be further from the center of the wheel. The performance drop might not be noticeable to the butt dyno though.

EDIT: oh and to answer your question yes I do check the weight, that's one big factor in me not going aftermarket, that and light weight wheel usually cost an arm and a leg because they are often forged. Cast is much cheaper to make, not as strong, and generally heavier.

You hit it on the nail with that! Forged rims are dam expensive but your statement is 100% truth.

For the LS I picked out the rims soley on looks. It's just the daily driver so I woundn't spend the money on the lightest weight etc. since that's not what my beater is for. :D
