You will see a drastic loss in MPG without creating a static pressure or blowing of the compressed air in the dead cylinders. If the valves are active and you cut fuel and spark creating dead cylinders the compression becomes a real power robber. Without going into complex math each active cylinder wastes 30% of its power overcoming the opposite dead cylinder at idle, try doing this on a carb car with no computer to open vacuum and raise the idle speed it will die instantly without burying the idle screw. Now as the RPM raises there is less time for the cylinders to equalize creating greater pressures, same idea as increasing your timing, spark occurs before TDC igniting fuel and air creating greater cylinder pressures and more power. Now if you could make a set of spark plugs with blow off valves and custom COP assembles and alternate cylinders HMMMMMM.....
