What's up guys/gals. Been browsing thru the forums for awhile and finally decided to join. I got a misfire on cylinder 2, it's not the coil being how I swapped it out with cyl 3. I even popped a new plug in just in case the plug was bad but the touble is still there. I had a misfire on cyl 3 about 2 months ago and it turned out to be the fuel injector. I don't feel like spending all that money on getting it fixed. Are there any how to's on changing injectors? Any help is greatly appreciated. Oh yeah its a 2002 V8.

Thanks I saw that thread so does this mean I have to get a special tool from ford or can I get it anywhere? Also I read online about releasing pressure from the fuel line first. how do I do that.

Don't worry about any special tools to release the fuel pressure. Just take a few shop rags and lay underneath of where the fuel schrader valve is. Then take a pin or other slender object and press on the center of the valve while holding a rag around it to gather any fuel that leaks out.

the tool is not for releasing pressure - but to disconnect the fuel line form the fuel rail (pressure sender). Like Robert said - to release the pressure - simply depress the schrader valve (covered by a rag).

To disconnect the fuel line - you will need a 1/2" Ford fuel line disconnect tool - they are a couple of buck at any parts store. It the blue one in the pick.

Being that Lou has more Gen1 LS experience and I have more Gen2 LS experience he would be able to guide you better when it comes to a step by step breakdown of EXACTLY what you need to do here. However with that said swapping injectors is a pretty straight-forward process. I will provide a general overview. Disconnect battery (for safety reasons), release fuel pressure, detach quick disconnect on fuel rail, carefully remove obstacles that will prevent you from lifting fuel rail up enough to swap the injector, unbolt fuel rail, and lift rail up. You will meet with quite a bit of resistance because your injector o-rings have probably got stuck pretty solid inside their bungs with glop and other small debris. I would suggest that once you have the rails pulled with the injectors that you do a visual inspection of the injector o-rings to make sure none tore or were otherwise damaged when pulling the rail. They usually survive ok but it is worth it to just do a once over. Replace the o-rings that you need to replace, swap the single injector out that you need. Take a rag and some carb cleaner sprayed on it and clean your injector bungs out ensuring NO debris falls inside the intake manifold. Once clean then just reverse the process for re-installation. Good luck!

ok thanks for the help. I replaced the injector but now the light came back on and it still stutters just not as bad. I went to autozone and now I got the code P0113 Intake Air temp circuit. Can that cause stuttering also?

We have not heard of many bad injectors.

sound like a vacuum leak... maybe something not tight with the intake tube?

The IAT sensor it about 6" left of the MAF - sound like it's unplugged.

common issues with the Gen1 were oil in spark plug wells because of bad valve cover gaskets, or coils going bad.

Add to the common issues, "incorrectly called-out bad coils". Also add in, "change all the coils at once when one is mis-firing, it seems to work best and leads to the least amount of downtime for the car."

ok here's the update. All good now. It was the coil. I finally took it to the dealer and let them diagnose it and it failed the stress test. Of course when the trouble 1st came I swapped the coils but forgot to reset the computer so when i went to have autozone retest it the scanner still showed cyl 2 with the misfire. So after I leave the dealer I go to Autozone to get a coil but it was to big so I couldn't get the cover back on, but I started the car anyway and of course it sounded beautiful.

fuel injector replacement on a gen 1 take the better part of a day.... stupid air assisted injectors!!!!

Couple of morals (again) to this thread:
When the LS misfires, 95% of the time, its due to a failed or failing coil.
When doing a coil replacement on the LS, change them all at the same time.

When should one replace the injectors on a preventative maintenance basis? Hitting over 101K on the car and just want to keep things going for another 100K

I believe that it's quite likely that cars with over 100K miles might need injectors cleaned and tested. I am chasing a 'missing' problem on a local car. All the coils have been changed and the gaskets replaced. Now I'll try a different set of injectors.

(Sending injectors for a clean-n-test costs about $16 each.)

This has been a PITA to diagnose.

what's your problem? If you've replaced all the coils, gaskets, spark plugs, etc.. Seems like big problem. You got a link to a topic you started about it?

Does anyone know where I could get my injectors cleaned and tested in Chicago?! I'm having the same problem replaced all 8 cop, vcg, plugs, fuel filter. Now I think I found the leaking injector and I'm changing it tomorrow. I still would like to know where I could get the rest cleaned and checked.

Holly tread revival man! Congrads on using the search function I guess.

Anyway, do some research, I was able to pick up injectors for my v6 for about $20 each. If you can get injectors cheap enough for the v8 you might as well replace them as it might not cost much more then having them checked/cleaned.

Yeah I've been searching the subject for days now thts how I found out how to check for leaking injectors. I got my injector for $40 but since I'm tight on cash right now I thought it might be cheaper if I get them checked and only replace the failed ones. I have no idea how much they would charge to check the though.

It's unusually for multible to fail at once, it's probably just one.

Well I guess I'll have to wait and see if the problem is fixed after I replace the injector tomorrow. Thanks.
