The 93 has JBL premium audio system but I need to replace the speakers, any suggestions for front and back and what sizes?

5x7/6x8 (same size) front and back, get some pioneer triaxles, you can findem cheap and they be crisp and punchy

Well the car has 6x8 "sub woofers" and 2.5" full range. You can take the wire that feeds the tweeters to feed new door speakers but really aftermarket speakers sound like crap with the factory deck. I would highly reccomend to replace the head unit too and run new wires from the deck to the new speakers. Bypass the stock amp all together. Any of Pioneers decks that cost $90 or more have more internal power then the JBL amp provides.
I put Boston Acoustic Pro 6.5" components in my doors. I used a 6x8 adapter ring and put the tweeters in the factory locations attenusted -2db. I am feeding them with an old school Xtant amp rated at 75 watts and the system sounds killer.

eBay is your friend. Got my buddy a Pioneer deck with sat radio and remote and tons of features for $80 shipped brand new. Hes driving 4 6.5" coaxials and it sounds very nice. My Boston Pros I scored for $75 on eBay and they are $600 speakers. :D

I used JL Audio 5 X 7's 2-way for the front and Kicker DS-68 6 X 8 2-way for the rear and jerked the $2.00 amp mounted in the rack out. I removed the entire amp rack and everything on it. Cell phone was useless and I know if I'm going North, South, East or West. My speaker box wouldn't fit in there with it in the way. Those factory speakers are a joke. Amp is too.

BTW, the ONLY difference between Pioneer and their Premier is the warrenty is doubled.
Pioneers have the warmest sound and the best eq/x-over/pre amp/amp section out of any deck I have installed. I have installed for many years and cant think of a single brand I have not installed. Pioneers were always the best sounding decks.

Kenwood Excelon is my favorite pick for true equalization and crossover options. Everyone has their own tastes.

As well as the doubling of the warranty generally cost 20 for the premier name, but when it comes to their amps, speakers and subs its a whole different ball game. Either way pioneer is has and always will be at the top of my list in all aspects

Now some of the better Kenwoods do have a nice EQ section and very nice crossovers and DA convertors but their sound was.... IDK, not bad but side by side with a Pioneer like a 7800 or better then the Pioneer had the sound beat. Rockford used to make great sounding decks but not any more. Clarions older Pro Audios with the copper chasis were killer as were the older Eclipse withthe copper chasis. Sony sux. Nakamichi has killer D/A convertors and pre amp sections butno EQ and their internal amps sucked. I dont really like any of the newer Alpines eaither. If you canget an 06 or earlier model with the BBE then they are great!

The single bestdeal you canget is find a gently used Pioneer DEH7800 or 9800 and you will be amazed. The single best on board quasi parametric EQ I have used, x-over section is first rate, BMX processor sonds nice and the digital time alignment can make your sound stage set up perfectly. Should be able to find one around $120 give or take. Truley excellent deck.

The KDC-X789 I have in mine has the [FONT=arial, helvetica]24-bit Burr-Brown digital-to-analog converter and I could really tell a difference in sound compared to the KDC-X959 that I removed and gave to my dad. lol, he's wanting speakers and we're already trying to sell him a deck.

I'm a JL Audio fan all the way and Boston Acoustics, Polk, Infinity Kappa would be my next choices. I put the Kicker in the rear because I got a good deal on them and they really do handle the Kicker Impulse 654xi pretty good and are just as clear as the JL's I have in the door. This makes me wanna get some new pics in the gallery because I have completely rewired everything. I have OCD when it comes to hiding wire and going through the doors rubber hose with new wire was fun. If you're going to change speakers in the car, do it right. Use quality wire, proper guage and hide it well. You'll appreciate the outcome.

im running a set of 6.5 componet speakers in the front doors with custom brackets for the tweets up top. everything looks stock when i was finished and it sounds great. in the back i am running a 5.25 set of compenets as well. again custom brackets used here as well. but this time for both the mid and the tweet. now when i say custom brackets. its really super easy i used some fairly thin yet ridig wood traced out the patter cut em up. painted em baclk and screwed em it. looks very clean and sounds great.

now im not to sure how much effort you want to put into your sound. but i went through and reran my own speaker wire for everything as well. i just dont like stock wire and with the way they have the jbl system its kinda jacked up anyway so go for it. its not that hard. most of the trim panlas pull right off minus the door sill which has 1 screw then pulls right off.

as for a head unit. dont listen to the preimeir propagada about the warrenty there are actually differences in the products. i couldnt agree more with using a pioneer head unit. kenwood does have some nice ones as well. you will have better sound in my opinion from the pioneer. personally id search ebay and get a deh-p9800bt. this truely is the best head unit ive found in a long time and i cant even seem to find a newer one with features that match it. but they arnt cheap. whatever you decide to do youll enjoy the upgrade. the jbl sound might of been nice when it was new but its subpar now anyway

i agree. with the wires and stuff. i reran my entire car im running close to 4000 watts and everything is clean and hidden like stock. jl audio is clean bostons are okay. infinitys are over rated. but i do love polks. its what i have in may car. in the rears. they are the db5251 compenet set. however im actually surpized by hifonics. i have a set of their 6.5s upfront. for 60 bucks i was blown away id put them up there in the higher end. personally tho. if cash wasnt the options id probably run some focals

Trippen: Some stuff I agree with. It is waybetter to run new speaker wires throughout the car, big plus. I ran 14awg wires to my components and 10awg to the sub. My amp is only rated at 300 watts RMS but has 100amps worth of fuse and takes a 4awg wire so you know it puts out almost tripple its raiting (first gen Xtant 3300c).
Jl Audio makes excellent speakers! I have had them all. Infinity used to be the cream of the crop but now only their Kappa Perfects are worth a damn.
I have installed will over 2000 stereos and played with all of them. If you like rock music and live music then Boston is by far the best choice. Their pro series may run ya $250 a set on eBay but the only speakers I have ever heard that sound better are Infinity Beta (no longer available), Rainbow audios ($4000 a set), MB Quart Q series ($700 a set and they are not as loud or have as good midbass), JL Audios top speakes (also $800 a set but the tweeters are very harsh). Bostons will be the truest to the recording.

As for subs I have had them all. I am happiest with my current one though. I had JL Audio W6 and W7 but the Boston G5 I have now is unreal! I have a single 10" and the bass is phenominal! Deep, clean and tight. I lucked out cause it was only $75 but you can usually find them for $160ish on ebay. Mine is in a .5 cubic foot sealed box and tucked away where the factory changer sat. The sub is completly rebuildable too. There is no doubt that it is as loud as my old W7 but sounds better then my W6 did. Cant reccomend that sub enough!

Anyway Trippen, the older Premiers did have tighter tolerence caps in them and steeper x-overs as well as better D/A convertors but since 05 they have been identical. I was a Pioneer dealer for years in Maui and I heard this from the Pioneer rep and have confirmed this by taking apart several models. Only the warrenty is doubled but everything else is IDENTICAL.
Now the 9800 is a spectacular unit! I have run it up against a McIntosh deck amd a Nakamichi MB100 and there is no comparison. The Pioneer is 10x better. Takes a bit to get used to it as it really has no buttons (just a couple and a joystick) but it has more features then any other deck I have seen!

Go with 6.5 component speakers. That way you essentially have the same system but better. I took the existing tweeter housings, gutted them and uset the housings for the new tweeters. I did this front and back. A very clean system with wires tucked and run to a 5 channel amp mounted in the same place the factory amp was.

i love my 9800bt and the preimer 980bt are close to identical but each one has a seperate feature the other does not. i cant remember what they were right off the bat but i do remember taking like 3 weeks to decide wich one i wanted more and the 9800bt won. as for the subs ive herd about the boston sub being pretty good. right now im running a set of volfenhag. super cheap super loud. its a hold me over sub till i can get my hands on what i really want. FI CAR AUDIO btl speaker. i cant explain about this sub people will just have to you tube it to understand.

Oh I understand speakers like that. If I had the cash I would have some Rainbow Audio components ($4000) and a pair or Focal Utopia multi magnet 13" subs ($2100 each)and McIntosh's big bad boy 6 channel ($3000 used, $6000 new) all being fed by a Pioneer Z3. I gaurentee it would be the single best sounding car stereo 99% of the people in the world have ever heard.

My hands down favorite sounding component setup is no longer available and would be so very hard and expensive to get. A pair of Infinity Beta 6.75" midbass speakers, Infinity Beta 2.5" soft dome mid, Infinity Kappa 1"x3" EMIT ribbon tweeters and the old Pro Comp MB Quart 3-way crossover. I did that setup in a customers Mustang once and after the install I sat in his car for 3 hours just listening to music. It was just amazing detail, songs I have heard 100 times and I was hearing stuff that I never heard before. It was driven by a Pioneer ODR deck that had a dual mono 31 band eq built in running fibre optics to the rear mounted Burr/Brown D/A convertor into some McIntosh amps and some Infinity Beta 15" subs. Total system cost with my installation was $18,000 and this was in 97 or 98.
Still the best sounding setup I have ever heard, made the hairs on the back on my neck stand up.

i love the mark viii door because they have a great set up for component speakers with little modification. i have a set of four inch boston RC 420 components up top cut into the stock tweeter spot (very tight fit) with a pair of kicker 6.5 slims in the doors.
