I have a 2001 Lincoln LS and the cigarette lighter is not working correctly I think it may have a short. When I connect a radar detector or phone charger it has to be manipulated in order for the power to stay connected. My question is has anyone had to replace the cigarette lighter in their car, and how difficult this would be. I can take out the console that is fairly easy. I haven't found a manual or any resource on this particular repair/replacement. Thanks Everyone, Any Advice Would Be Great!

if you were to have a whole assembly maybe from a junkyard or something, swapping it out takes about ten minutes (and thats being generous)

It's not a "short." A short would be blowing a fuse or starting a fire. You have an intermittent "open" somewhere, probably one of the contacts in the socket.

I have the same issue in my 02. I assume there's a fatigued connection in the assembly due to the cigarette lighter moving. I haven't opened mine up because the rear port works fine with my phone in the cupholder and I plan on outfitting the car with 5 or 6 USB ports anyway. Skip the adapters all together and just have a 12v5v converter in the trunk
