Anyone have one on their Mark? I was curious how hard it would be to put one on my mark? What kind did you use? Searched but didnt see any topics on it.

Remote Start

Hi!

I was going to have a complete remote start system with full alarm installed on my 98 Mark VIII but got put off by the additional things needed & expenses.....Need a extra key with micro chip (Dealer) Plus Programming of this key to the system (dealer) Plus extra relay for Mark VIII Ignition....

Let me know how Yours turns out & what done/ costs.....

Thanks!!!

I've got a CompuStar unit in my car with alarm/start and love it so far. Amazing range, some extra goodies to go with it...
Not to bad an install in these cars, but like maxedout said, you'll need a bypass for a 2nd gen (like your '98 - get one you don't need an extra key for.) Some of the better units won't require extra relays for ignition, depends on what you get... There is a few topics on it when I just searched...

I use Crimestopper units, they work great, not too hard to install. I believe you can ever get a T-harness for our cars to make it a little easier to install.

Ease of install, depends a lot of how good you are with a soldering iron and fitting into small tight spaces.

If I still lived in St. Louis, I'd tell you to bring it over and I'd do it for you but I'm about an hour and half further now.

I have a viper on my T-bird but my vote is for CompuStar
I think some of the new remotes for them are now rechargeable like a cell phone

I just really wanted to know how hard it is to install cause my soddering skill are crap but I can do stereos with no problems. Just trying to save a few hundred.

most places will install for free if you are buying a good starter or at least they used to

i have a clifford 50.7x best one i have found so far and i install for a living. First gen is easy to install no bypass and extra things like the gen 2. If i where u i would take it to a profesional shop and have them do it. If u are in st. Louis head over to jml audio they are a well respected shop all over the country.

not to hijack a post, but does anyone know how to change the settings on a Python 1400xp from circuit city?

,my friend just got one on a Toyota and does not want to deal with circuit city ever again, but wants to change some sttings on it,

thanks

what do you have to do to install one of these on a first gen? Where does it go?

its cake work i have the clifford matrix3.0 in my gen 1 before i sold it here is the wire colors .... i cant locate it but use the search function and its under 1wykdmk8 (RIP ray) he was the one that sentme those colors over a year ago

i had a viper 5900 on my 94 mark and my 00 LS and a viper 5701 on my 03 LS, it goes where ever you want to put it, the better the installer the better places you will find for it, the marks are not to hard to work on, everything is pretty much straight forward, just not a lot of room to work with. if your car needs a PATS bypass, i reccomend using one that you DO NOT need to leave a extra key in, they are a little smaller and easier to hide, but you will need two keys to program it.

you will need to tap into the 12v+, ign, and acc wires at the ignition harness, the lock and unlock wires in the drivers kick pannel, the trunk pop and the parking light wires at the switches, ground it, and run a tach wire to one of the injector's wire (the one that is not common) there is a little more to it of course, but you get the picture.

wheres the best place to get at the ignition harness? Sounds very easy... How long does an install usually take?

well apparently the bull dog didn't get good reviews on amazon... so im gonna go with that Python or Compustar as recommended. Looks like that T adapter makes things very easy... Where does that fit in exactly on the car, before the ignition? So just remove the cowl and unplug the ign on the steering wheel?

please what ever you do do not get that bulldog r/s they are no longer in buisness and therefore you can not get any tech support if needed. Go with a dei piece which is for ex. viper python clifford astrostart and alot more. But what ever you do go with something you can get help on if needed.

I still don't own a Mark but would it be possible to install a remote starter and have the windows roll down if I hold the button?

Or other cool things like turn the heated seats on?

All of that is possible, it's just a matter of figuring out what it would take and wiring it up.

The sky is the limit with programmable aux channels like on most good systems. I've got a window module here waiting to go in mine. If I hit aux 1 it will crack/vent the windows, and aux will roll them down. Arming it will roll them up... Some of the systems will do it on one channel depending how its set up... That the12volt.com is a great site for specific info on cars and systems and lots of other stuff too...
