I was driving down the highway today and noticed i was riding a little different and then i got a "check air ride" warning.
I pulled off the highway into a parking lot and shut the car off and got out. the rear bags were slammed all the way down.

I turned air ride switch off and on a few times and started it back up. i heard compressor come on but the rear didnt raise but 1/4 inch. tried cycling the key a few times but no raise. fronts are fine. i do a system check, and no air ride warnings come up.

any thoughts? bad compressor?

probably blew out a rear bag, or maybe a line/o-ring-if the compressor runs and the front raises, that's not it. Maybe check the height adjuster to see if it is on the mounts.

Same thing happened to me recently on my '96. Turns out I have a couple of itty bitty leaks on my driver's side rear spring. What happened was that when I sat in the car and put the kids in the back before starting it, my weight ("only" 203 lbs:D) plus the kids' moved the car down just enough to open those dryrot cracks and let the air out of the bag. The entire rear end eventually slammed. I ended up putting a jack under it and raising the rear end up enough to close the dryrot cracks and then the compressor kicked in and pumped it back up. Unfortunately, I can't afford new rear bags right now, so I raised the rear sensor a tad (about 1/4") so it would close the dryrot cracks until I can get new bags. Haven't had a problem since. That's been about 2 months so far. But I still can't complain too much. Those rear bags are 14 years old.

My front bag blew out about a month ago and the front slammed to the ground. Once a bag pops somehow, it isn't going back up.

I had a solenoid that decided to stay open on the highway before, eventually it started working again, and if one side loses air the other comes down almost all the way, maybe it's actually pumping air into one side and not the other to get the 1/4in lift

or, maybe you just have leaky bags

I've had this happen a few times, leaky airsprings, compressor etc.

When the rears slammed all the way, the sensor was out of range. Try jacking the left rear up a couple inches using the spare tire jack and key on.

It should let the rears pump up, even if it's only temporarily until you replace the airsprings.

Thanks, ill try that in the morning.

Another trick is to start the car on and then flip the air ride switch on and off until it finally kicks on. I had to do that during the cold weather to get my rear bags to pump up. I would get the "check air ride" message then I would turn the switch off and back on and eventually, the air ride would work again.

The rear ride height sensor came off the mount from hitting a pretty big pothole. put it back on....back to normal. Thanks KK.

Who put it back on?
the airbags survived.

I said Thanks KK didnt i? :)
you were quicker on the jack in my trunk than i was. before i knew it, Minikini was under my car and saying, "yep your ride sensor came off the mount". The little sh*it is fast! at that point, i wasnt about to say "move over lemme see". sometimes, its just better to let youth and skill win over age and treachery...Thanks again Brandon.

:) He is a busy guy.
Always has something going on.
He picked up the housing for me.
Thanks Brandon.

Hey Ford Nut, we ought to get together and trade war stories sometime this year. as the crow flies, youre only 20 miles from me.

There would be epic pics of stacks car... except my camera died...

Did the hub swap and put on some new blingier wheels :)

Springs suck. I drove Marks Mark and it was nice but the front end wanders a bit after 75.

And Sapperfire, you always say you wish yours felt and rode and handled like mine...... need air to do it.

I was a big time spring advocate. Maybe it was because my springs in the 97 seemed to be a higher rate and didnt float but ever since I got an air ride that I modded and then ride in a spring car I really dont like springs now.
There was a section of highway in Dallas that when my 97 would hit it I would get sea sick. The car would roll and bob going over these angled expansion joints. The 98 dont do it, nice and flat. :)

yeah its like my 3rd or 4th choice everything was the right size but too much kb. 30bk or something is way too low to get anything good, but im diggin what i got now
I wish I knew how to change my CT. I have PMd mods and admin yet they wont respond cause my dicks bigger or something. :p
