I've been looking around and found a lot of useful information with replacing the front air struts but i have not seen much in regard to the rear air struts. my new bags will be here Monday and i was wondering will i really need to break the car down to the point i have to remove each of the lug nut studs. is there an easier way to get this done with out having to do that. I do not mind pulling the brakes and rotors but hell i don't really wanna do the rest.
 
The rear bags wont take any more then 15min each for a first timer.
 
No air struts in rear, only bags. Just pull the solinoids out to vent them and they pop right out. You should pull the tire off though for ease of access. Dont even need any tools to replace them, duck soup.
 
I gave up, people get pissy when I correct the front terminology. :lol:

Well, you have what is called a "shops PDF way to rape someone" and then the simple PDF way as DLF gave you. What's so bad is that the shop would have probably used the PDF that DLF provided and charged you for the "shops PDF"

I've done confused myself now.
 
I did mine a couple of months ago. Took about 10 minutes each side (using a lift). And I didn't remove the wheels or anything else. Just took the old bags off and put the new ones on. Easy peasy japanesey. :)
 
well i got one changed out. whats odd is the one i pulled out didnt appear to be leaking at all. i wonder if it was just the o-rings. speaking of o-rings i got 3 with my shock. i know where the two little ones went but i could not appear to find the 3rd. i thought it went up in the hole that the adapter fits into. when i did that i couldnt get the piece to fit all the way in and it popped out on me when i turned the system back on. i also could not seam to get that tiny little clip to go in the hole either. the air bag is up in and turned almost half way and feels to be in real snug. what might the dangers be of that little clip piece not sitting in the hole. the clip im talking about is the one on the top of the air bag.

i did notice that it held the air good. and when i pushed on the trunk i did not get any leaks. and when i sat in the car i did not get any leaks. it feels much better driving too now that i have all the air through out the entire system. ill probably wait till saturday to swap out the other one and keep that bag as a back up.

the only real problem i ran into was get the air bag out of the spot once it was free. a 2 x 4 and a little pressure and i drop the brack down enough to pull it out and get the other bag in. i just hope everything stays like it is.

I usually unbolt both sway bar links at the top and swing the sway bars out of the way to give me room... I can change one side in 5 minutes

is the 3rd o ring much bigger than the other 2. sometimes the solenoid has a grove for the big o ring towards the middle, and if it doesn't have the grove you dont use it.

if your talking about the metal clip, thats pretty important because if your driving and the solenoid comes out of the bag its droppin.....NOW

no not that clip. the one on the top of the air bag. its like built into the air bag on the other edge of the hard plastic top
 
Just looed at my spare set. There is only two orings on there. And +1 on the clip, that needs to be in there because normal vibration will cause the solinoid to back off and as said, thats an instant and complete drop.
 
well i dared to be dangerous. i drove it to work today. got home. pulled the tired was getting ready to re-seat the bag today after i got the tire off and looked at the clip. it had worked itself right into place.

I was stoked about that. the car rides nice again.
