So, I am do for inspections and emissions. I moved so I am registered in a new state and I went a head with getting my car inspected. I some how failed emissions for readiness. What the fVck is that?

I didnt have a cell code or nothing. What pisses me off is that they said its probably just a generic false positive and should be fine but they still did not give me my stickers. I need t come back within 30 days and pay for a new inspection! I also had the place ( NTB ) service my brakes and by god was that a fiascoe! Arguing about my tuner lugs, the place somehow didnt have the tool. Go figure the sell tires and sh*t wheels out the ass but they didnt have a simple spline drive tool? Then I show up with mine and they tell me the lugs are rusted and are gunna snap the studs? Brand new lugs! Surface cosmetic rust and thats it, after calling the guy a pussy he pulled off a lug and realized he's a ass hole and the damn thing was like new! Not to mention some guy from the shop came up and said " hey heres that tool" yes they had it the whole time!

Anyway, what he hell could be causing this readiness fail? How do I fix it? How the hell can they tell me its nothing but fail me?

Have you had your battery disconnected for any reason in the past couple weeks? Did they give you a report of what monitors had not been run? The computer needs to see certain different conditions to run each of the readiness tests, for example if you only drive in stop and go driving around town, your car will never run the EGR monitor because the conditions for the test aren't right. If you knew what hadn't been run though, you could purposely drive so as to cause that test to run and get through inspection.

thanks Quick, Ill get on that!

Blenderhead, here is what I see in my OBD Emissions Inspection box on the print out:

MIL BULB KOEO: PASS

MIL BULB KOER: PASS

MIL COMAND STATUS: PASS

OBD: FAULT CODE RESULT: PASS

OBD READINESS RESULT: FAIL

OBD-I/M CHECK RESULT: NA

Then in the NON-Continuous Monitor Tests

Catalyst-Not complete

heated Catalyst-Not Supported

Evaporative System-Not Complete

Secondary Air System- Not Supported

A/C Sys Refrigerant-Not supported

Oxygen Sensor-Complete

Oxygen Sensor Heater-Complete

EGR System-Not Complete.

I did have my battery disconnected for a while I in fact have been having draining problems until just recently. I also had a no start issue that I rounded down to a clogged fuel filter.

Could I have a EGR problem? Like I said I never had any cell.

The car feels great. Like new and it almost always has been good to me.

Jesus Christ, the procedure in that links like trying to operate a freakin battleship!

That's cause I called the shop beforehand and told them to :q:q:q:q with you :-D haha

This is whacky. Like WTF? Everything I have read says that a trained/qualified tech should complete these steps to complete the tests do to the fact mots drivers will never drive in a fashion as to execute and complete some of these tests.

Is that true. I mean it sounds like it makes sense to me.

So now that I have figured out what the problems are I assume I need to do all this?

EVAP 6. Cruise at 72 to 104 Km/h (45 to 65 MPH) for
10 minutes (avoid sharp turns and hills). NOTE:
To initiate the monitor TP MODE should = PT,
EVAPDC must be > 75%, and FLI must be
between 15 and 85%.
Executes the EVAP
monitor (If IAT is
within 4.4 to
37.8°C (40 to
100°F).

Catalyst 7. Drive in stop-and-go traffic conditions. Include
five different constant cruise speeds, ranging from
40 to 72 Km/h (25 to 45 MPH) over a 10 minute
period.
Executes the
Catalyst Monitor.
EGR

8. From a stop, accelerate to 72 Km/h (45 MPH)
at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle. Repeat 3 times.
Executes the EGR
Monitor.

If you had the battery disconnected, that pretty much explains it; it just hasn't completed it's tests yet. Take the car out in the middle of the night so there won't be many other cars on the road, and find one road where you can hold a steady 45mph for about 10 minutes, and another road where you can hold a steady 70mph for 10 minutes, and then a couple days of normal driving just to be safe, and that should take care of everything. Also, if you want to make sure everything is ready before you spend the money for a reinspection, see if a shop would be willing to hook it up to a scan tool real quick and check the readiness monitors for you. If you find a small private shop, they might be willing to do it for you and not charge you for it.

Makes me wonder...though I have had my car for 2year and driven it only 13k miles...I question when and if I'll ever have to do an emissions test.....

I have an Elmscan usb to obd2 interface that along with software called OBDSpy2(still free?) or ProScan(40.00) that tells me among other things when my monitors read ready.
On my 04 it only takes till next day for them to reset.
You're allowed 1 not ready for 2000 and up cars, 2 not readies for 96-99 cars.
My brother has a 99 Buick Regal with an EVAP code which comes back after a few days if you clear it.
His monitors reset quickly before the code comes back.
We check the monitors and take it in for the emissions test when we know it will pass 2 years running now.

Does that differ from state to state?

In PA I could have swore I ead you are allowed 3.

Blenderhead, I have a full understanding for it now. I technically didnt fail I just couldnt complete the emissions test they made it sound like I am blowing out as much smog as China or something. That had me pissed and worried cause my car is fine but now I understand it was just the wrong time for me to get the emissions done.

I live out in the middle of no where now but its state cop territory. Im gunna work it all out today, I have some wedding to go to and I have to drive all over the place. They did give me paper work explaining the situation but I know its a 50/50 chance of getting a ticket or not.,

Do you have emissions and inspections?

Jeez man.

Its something annual if you do!

Why don't you have your own key for your lugs? Whenever I've had locking lugs I always had a key to go with them.

I guess not. I know when I had the ford taurus years ago I had to do emissions and my lil bros' contour he had to do emissions but I am unaware if I needa wait for a letter from the state to do emissions or what.....

So glad I don't have to deal with that :q:q:q:q where I live. My car would be illegal as hell, because id never have the tests done. Passing VA state safety inspection is enough of a PITA, I think I'll pack up and move if they ever mandate emissions testing for the whole state.

Technically its not a locking lug. They are all just a tuner lug and most places I have ever been to have those on hand. I would especially assume a place that claims to do so much business with wheels to have them. In the end I was correct by that.

I have the tool, I just cleaned out the trunk and forgot to put it back in. I never carry it in the cabin of the car cause thats just asking for trouble.

 Dude you get the emissions done free of charge with inspection. You dont wait for any letter, it all gets done at the same time.

You sure about that man, I bought a jeep in VA, passed inspection down there, had to get it inspected in MD for tags, the rotors were bad. I heard VA is pretty lenient.
