I would like to eventually put some Magnaflows on my car but I do have a question:

I have an 06 Sport and I've read in more than one place that Ford really did a good job with the stock exhaust on the 2nd gens and a full kit really won't make much of a power difference. So is it worth blowing $800 on an x-pipe 2.5" or would it be better just to get new mufflers and tips?

And for that matter, is Magnaflow the best option if all I want is the most power increase? Sound comes second to speed to me. :)

Thanks folks!

2nd gen + performance exhaust = little power increase, mostly just a sound difference.

if you want the most power increase from $800, get a bottle.

the most power increase will come from cutting your exhaust off after the cats.... there is not a lot to be gained here in the exhaust realm. That being said go for a sound that is best to you, as the performance gain will not be enough to have an exhaust sound like :q:q:q:q to you

Ah, OK. Thanks folks! That saved me some money for sure. :D In that case, maybe a decent sound IS what I'll look for. In your guy's opinions, what's the best sound for this car? I don't think super loud is very fitting but maybe a nice noticeable throaty growl would be nice. Bassani? Magnaflow?

I have supper 44's and no resonators and magnaflow high flow cats with 2.25 exhaust so I am partial to the deafening loud side. for a lower growl I think most choose magnaflow. I mean there are hundreds of brands out there feel free to venture off and look up others.

Give your car a little different sound, I did, and I love it. Every time I get in my car it puts me in a good mood

When I first did my exhaust I got Magnaflow with 4" tips. It sounds good but wasn't loud enough for me. Later I added 2.5" piping, resonator delete, and X pipe. It sounds similar to just Magnaflows but was louder. Flowmasters are the loudest but they don't flow very well, might loose a bit of power with them. From what you are saying I think you should get Magnaflows or Bassani and if its not loud enough you can add 2.5" piping later.

I wouldn't think you you would power with the flowmasters as they probably flow more than stock but they may not be the best, when looking at the diagram of their internal design I would imagine they flow well. I would look for some real flow bench testing though

Mufflers on this car is about sound not performance.

if you really want to improve the power with an exhaust system, then just replace the mufflers with a turbo or two, sounds awesome and will definitely throw you back in the seat a little bit.

seriously though, the best sounding systems i have heard in person are with mid muffler (dual in/dual out) systems and new pipe out the back, but this is not the best ideal for lowered LS's

I really like how my 40 series delta flow sound with no resonators, its about as mustang'ish an LS can get, but it is a tad on the loud side!

Great advice and Nick, wow. What an awesome resource.

Thanks folks, not gonna lie, quite happy to save a few hundred clams.
