tried earch function and gas is too short of a word and fuel is all about fuel filters, so just need a quick answer to this question.

so i was low on gas sunday when i came home figured i'd leave early for work tonight and get some. just get up and my mom said she took my car to work because she has a dead battery and coundn't find mine too boost her(since its in the trunk). i ask her is she put gas in it and she said yeh 30 but of 87 octance. i also put 91 in and i know your suppose to but i also remember a few post about ppl putting 87 octance in, never really read them cuz it didnt concern me and now cant find em.

i'm pretty sure its ok, just want some peace of mind, or should i go top it up with 91.

IIRC the engine will pull timing to adjust to the lower octane fuel. However, if you want to be safe, I would go get a bottle of octane booster and put it in there.

Fill it up with 91 or 93 next time, like you always should.
Just be easy on the gas pedal until the next fill-up.

Correct.. I would top it off though because if one of your knock sensors is bad, it won't sense the knock.. And problems could come.. Just my opinion.. Likely hood of one being bad is very slim so I wouldn't worry too much about it.. Like Joe said, be easy on the pedal

i wouldn't say its "OK" but people seem to do it all the time, the car should take the propper precautions to keep it from destroying the motor (lets hope that your knock sensors are working fine), they dont put warning sign on things for sh!ts and giggles, does your mom run stop signs all day, or does she just pick and choose which signs she follows?

she didnt get of the car she went to a full serve. im gunna say 90% of ppl dont know some cars take higher octane gas they just think its for ppl who want better quality gas

i completly agree but i know at least a few ppl on here put 87 in there ls maybe its not that uncommon for ppl to do

I would link you to the thread with all the figures about using 87 and how your actually LOOSING money by using it.. Frog actually had like a 1/4 page of very useful information..

Because 90% of people are Dumba$$es

I see it all the time at the airport.

signs are impossible to read even if theyre simple pictures.

i had an ls come into service the other day and it was running rough at times and i asked the guy do you put premium fuel in and he says "Nah main i ain't never put dat :q:q:q:q in dis cah..." i told him its required and he said " eh main i owened this car for eva and i ain't never put dat :q:q:q:q in here.." then he asked me if i was gettin smart with him and i said i am being smarter than you, he got pissed and left i said well wreck your car i don't give a :q:q:q:q.

haha. i do love that rant.
here ya go! excellent reading.

This again...

Some people REALLY shouldn't drive cars they can't afford fuel for.

Why do do people step over a dollar to save a dime?

On average premium is 10 to 15 cents more expensive than regular.

Lets have us a little math session.

We'll use rounded numbers for the slower people.

Say that your car will average 20 miles per gallon over the span of 100,000 miles. That gives us 5000 gallons of fuel used for that 100K miles.

At $3 a gallon for regular unleaded, that comes to $15K in fuel.

At $3.15 a gallon for premium, that comes out to $15,750.

We take the difference of the two, and we end up with $750 extra over the course of 100K miles.

At an average of 15K miles, a year, that breaks down to to 6.67 years to put 100K miles on that car.

We take this extra $750 and we divide that by 6.67, and we end up with 112.47 extra dollars a year in fuel costs.

Now you tell me, is this $113 (rounded up) worth upwards of what, $2000-$3000 dollars to replace your engine because it went south due to constant detonation?

There is a reason why these cars require premium. Otherwise FORD would have recommended regular unleaded in these cars. Will your motor absolutely bomb if you constantly run regular in it? May so, maybe not. But think of it as an insurance policy.

Yes, the car can adjust to regular unleaded. But you also won't get the fuel economy the car would get if you were to run the required premium fuel. Lets not talk about what happens when you put your foot into it. We've already discussed how much an engine can cost to replace after you bomb it.

A lot of people seem to want performance, but don't want to pay for it. They abuse their cars, and when they break, they cry out about what a piece of crap the car is, because all this stuff keep breaking. Well DUH!

So you go ahead and run regular unleaded in your car. When the engine blows up and you can't afford to replace the motor because you didn't want to spend a measely extra $3 at the pump because you had to get your $2 twelve ounce bottle of Evian and then you junk it, there will be more junk yard LS's for other people to pull parts off of.

IMHO, if you can't afford the gas it calls for, you really have no business owning it.

I buy 100 Octane at lower elevations. Why? Because that's what the motor is tuned for. Personally, I don't like replacing 70K dollar motors because I skimped on a few dimes (let alone the extra $3.75 per gallon for 100 test) at the gas station. Now, an LS motor is obviously nowhere near 70 grand, but you get the idea.

This is what it costs me to fill up 3/4 of a tank (I don't like running a car below 1/4 or so) every few days.

Am I bitching? No. I know what I was getting into when I bought the car. I didn't buy the car and then bitch and moan about how expensive it is to run.

she didnt get of the car she went to a full serve.

then you need to go back and give the manager of that store hell, demand that they either give you a refund or a full tank of the right kind of gas, just because they choose to hire morons, doesnt mean that they should be able to get away with potentially damaging someones engine. and even if the jackwagon couldn't read, the sticker is more pictures than words, so even the low birth weight sons of b!tches can under stand it.

im gunna say 90% of ppl dont know some cars take higher octane gas they just think its for ppl who want better quality gas
well seeing how it is a gas station that the guy works for, he needs to be in that 10% that knows what the hell is going on

Frogman is paying $6.99 a gallon for 93 ?? Holly sh!t

oh yea, great thread :F
