forget the question title idk why i did that, im a moron today. this kid at schools talkin smack.. he's like im racing you when we get our licenses, i was like okay it'll be fun. he was like im smoking you im not joking, he said my parents aren't rich but im getting a brand new camaro ss coupe or a brand new infiniti g37s coupe, both of which are probably over 30k easily.. i said thats alot for a first car, especially for a new driver. so idc what he got, im racing him and beating him, the g37 got 330 horse, and the camaro ss got over 325 i think idk. i could care less how much the car is, im not lettin some snot nose punk talk smack about my mark, saying its slow, haha. i can't wait to race him, just with the tires chirping into 2nd he's gonna be shook and let off the gas lol. i should pick up some extra hp when i get the full LMS exhaust system. long post but it makes me laugh when mommies and daddies buy their kids a $25,000+ car for their first car and they say they can smoke anyone. if he dunno how to drive ill definately get him off the line. maybe the loud exhaust will make him think twice. im sure a lot of you when you were in high school got challenged by rich kids with daddies new car wanting to race.

I would not race that noob unless at a real track. That bone head kills someone racing you, YOUR charged with murder too. Think about it. I always had a built car from day 1 so I did not have to worry about the rich kids.
 
when i was 18 in my senior year of high school i raced my buddies girl in her taraus sho i had a 1988 pontiac GTA trans am with the lt-1 tuned port 5.7 it was my first v-8 and during that race i blew her doors off on the outside lane and for some reason froze up with my foot to the floor which lead the car to slowly slide off the road into the woods, lets say in the end it was one of my most EPIC FAILS and me and the car got very hurt. i never got to live that down the rest of my senior year. my father was so pissed at me he said you will never own another v-8 as long as you live under my roof, so 3 weeks after my crash i bought an 85 mustang gt and pops wanted to go a few rounds with me!! i sent my mom after him to cool him down, after that he said you crash again, you get no help from me! that was around 1997, i never crashed again until 2007 in my 98 mark VIII but that was a small crash. we are real stupid when we are young, horse power and loud exhaust makes it worse lol!
 
you have a point, and i had no intention of racing him in the streets. i wouldn't dream of doing that. yeah maybe some punk pulls up next to me at a stop light and revs his engine, i'd go to the next stop light but i wouldn't race for real in the streets. by saying you had a built car im guessing you mean it was fast as hell. im not worried about them because almost all of these shmoes are morons and just suck the money out of their parents, i know they can't drive for their lives, even the ones taking drivers ed now, they're like oo im getting an audi, im getting a benz, a beamer, and im just like did you do anything to get it besides ask, maybe put money towards it or get a 90 average, the answers always no. well hopefully when i get my license i can do a few performance mods. im getting the full LMS exhaust next spring, plugs and wires, taking out the air silencer, and idk about 4.10 gears, trak lok and 3500 stall. i would have to get my transmission rebuilt, theres too much mileage on the tranny, (90k) to start messing with it now. ill bet with an exhaust, gears, trak lok and stall i'd take him at the track any day.
 
find a 98 trans and swap it 93-97 are doo-doo no matter what you do to them it will break blow up and slip!!

interesting story lol. you know a taurus sho had absolutely no chance of a tuned 5.7 LT-1 haha, i bet you just wanted to rub it in :D that sucks that you got hurt, but i guess learn from mistakes lol. he wanted to go a few rounds, lol it sounds funny even though its not. yeah these marks are tempting to go WOT on a straight road with nobody around. hell i go 35-45 mph in a parking lot :) ive been moving cars around for the past 3 years, backing outta the driveway, u-turns, k-turns, parallel parking, im not being cocky but im pretty good at it, good enough where i have no problem turning with this big ass mark in small parking lots. i know out of me and my bro and sister, im the best outta the 3 and my sisters been driving for 3 years, she is by far the worst driver ever, im not even kidding. i pray before i get in the car.. its that bad. -_- i practice braking a lot too, you know people who make the car jerk when they stop at a light or something, when i stop you don't even feel the car move at all its so smooth :) takes a lot of practice though. all i can say right now is, 1 month till i get my permit !
 
i know, i want to do gears, trak lok and 3500 stall but im not allowed. my dad goes, theres no way im letting you do that, the car and tranny both have 90k on it, its too risky, which i can understand because i don't have the $$$ to get a new trans if it goes because of gears lol.. so in order im doing these things, full LMS exhaust, 18'' chrome speedstars 245/45/18 all around, 2- 10'' subs and amp, already have speakers and amp waiting to go in, de badging the trunk, rebuild tranny, 4.10 gears, 3500 stall with trak lok, tune. i can't wait!!

90K is not aton. Mine has 110K on it and has been blasting off tons of 1/4 mile runs, all stock expt for the jmod stuff and upgraded servos. Nothing more then VB out. Plus I would not pay 2000+ for a rebuild when you could get low miles 98 trans and not worry. (250 bucks)
 
2000 for a REBUILD! HOLY :q:q:q:q. i might look into finding a 98 trans. and i know 90k is low for a 16 y/o car, but my dad won't let me. atleast not until im a little older and actually have a license :)

Your pop is right. Learn to drive first and walk in the mods not run.

yeah i know, but i bust his chops from time to time anyway lol. i love driving around and want to learn at what else i could do to improve. he says im really good in a parking lot and moving the cars around in the street and driveway, but he said the real thing is gonna be when i get my permit and he takes me in the streets and drive for real. i can't wait

i got 167k out of my 97 trans and that was with alot of mods and me driving it hard, with 3:73;s and a trac loc i finally blew the trans going to work one morning, she just had enough!! so i put a beefed up 98 trans in it with 60k on it and 4:30's and trac loc my 2nd gear shift would snap your neck at 3/4 throttle at wot it would blow the rear tires off into 2nd gear, and leaving a light normally in regular traffic a few 2nd gear shifts would start to give you a tention headache. mine was j-modded and the line pressure was high in the tune, so it was like a firm shift x's 3 million!!

You must have cheap trans rebuilders in your area. In my area a stock rebuild in a taurus or and F-150 is 2000 to 2250 thats them R&R it. They will not rebuild and let you R&R it for warrenty reasons.
 
Do not go into an auto trans with out prior rebuilds. Not for a beginner. If you ever do need new one and most likely you will not just do a 98 trans and jmod it and be done.

im not rebuilding it. i would have it done at a place over here. now on the hunt for a 98 trans to buy next year, and have it j-modded. then either 4.10's or 4.30s , this isn't going to be a track car, i think 4.10s would be good, 4.30's would be nuts! 4.10s, 3500 stall, trak lok.

Alot of peeps think the pre 98 trans is crap its not. You have to look at it this way this trans started life as the AOD then Ford improved that trans and called it AODE then Ford improved that and called it our 4R70W. Its a pretty strong trans don't freak over the trans or engine.

You keep saying rebuild this one? Why would you get a good working trans rebuilt? Also if you are gonna do a trans might as well do a 98 cuz it does have some more good things done to it.
 
Leave your transmission alone if it's shifting fine. 90K miles is still a young transmission. Just JMOD it and rock it. If the time comes and it goes, find a 98 transmission but worry about crossing that bridge when you get to it. One thing I would suggest is NO wide open throttle with the overdrive on. The older transmission you have has a smaller and potentially weaker overdrive band and driving wide open with overdrive on is a sure way to start wearing that band quick.

Focus on your driveline mods if you're going to run the G37 Coupe. I doubt you will ever want to mess with the Camaro unless he has a bad launch or you can run 1/4 mile times somewhere at the top of the NA list. But hey, no one is stopping you. It's been done before and one could surely do it again with the right setup. ;) Or you might get lucky and the Camaro needs a driver mod. Those will run low 13s.

Either way, don't get discouraged. It's a step at a time with these cars. Every little bit helps and you will see that on the timeslips. The biggest combo for me was gears and stall and everything else just helped it go a little bit faster. :cool:

1998 trannys have mechanical diode, better valve body, and better MLPS, but you can do better.

2002- trannys have even better valve bodies (especially in OD circuit - PCM calibration required to reap all benefits of new VB), better EPC solenoids (increases line pressure), and I think the sun shell is stronger.

I'm no expert, by any means, but those are the changes I know of off the top of my head. I know the 4R70W's that come behind the 5.4L trucks have stronger internals and that new EPC solenoid that became standard in all 4R70W's in later years.

And YES, the JMod is a must if you're going to abuse your transmission. I have the JMod on my 1995 Thunderbird and I abuse the bejeezus out of that!

Interesting. I'd be curious to know. Especially if someone could tell me if the newer ones could handle more hp? I wonder if they are more stout, more reliable, or a combination of the two. I know there is plenty of guys that have ran blowers on these cars with full bolt-ons and are running stock transmissions with a JMOD but it might be nice to have that extra security because :q:q:q:q does happen. I would think that beyond 8 lbs. of boost, the tranny in a Gen2 is being pushed to its limits, but maybe I'm wrong. I know for sure that if I was to that point I would definitely want a good tuner with his hands on my car. I think sometimes just a bad tune can wreck converters and destroy transmissions. Especially with those tuners who jack up the line pressure beyond where it needs to be. I would imagine hard parts in the transmission would be weakened by that.
