with the gear, how do you make the speedometer accurate again? is it simply swapping out a speedo gear like it was in my mustang, or is it more hi-tech than that?

Yes,
just swap it out with a "white" gear.
(I don't remember the tooth count 21 or 23 ?)

You will now need a chip to eliminate the top speed limiter if you don't already have one, otherwise around 100 MPH or less will be your max.

I'm assuming it's the same procedure for 3.73 and 3.55 also? Just swapping out the gear for the correct one. Will a shop automatically do this or do you usually have to jump on there back to do it?

Ist Gen and 2nd Gen cars are different.

Gen2 cars don't get the speedo input from the Output shaft speed (OSS) sensor. The speedo gets it's input from the front wheel ABS sensor. If you change rear end gears, You still need to change the OSS gear however 9even in a Gen2). Otherwise the Power Control Module will interpret the higher drivesahft speed as a reason to shift gears sooner (at a lower engine RPM) With 4.10's the tranny will shift at around 5200rpm.

As long as he has the correct speedo gear, his max speed should'nt be affected.....Should it? I know that when i hooked the speedo up after the T45 swap, It was WAY off. The 2000+ T-45's have a magnetic VSS pickup, and won't work with the Gen1 PCM.

I was getting speedo readings of 100MPH while I was phisically moving around 30. The car acted like it should, and cut power when it "THOUGHT" it was running 130 MPH. So I pulled the speedo sensor till I could get the SpeedCal ER, from dallas mustang.

I would think that as long as the PCM is reading the "corrected" signal, you should be good to go. Or am I ignorant?

My point was that in a Gen2 car, what is commonly referred to as the the "speedo gear" on the tranny tailshaft, does not control the speedometer. The speedometer in a Gen2 gets it's input from the front wheel ABS sensors. The OSS sensor (wrongly called "speedo gear") provides input to the PCM regarding the speed of the driveshaft. The PCM uses this input to advise the tranny when to shift. If you change rear end gears or tire diameter, you will affect the driveshaft speed. To correct this change you will need to change the "speedo gear"

With 4.10's you will need a 23 tooth gear. Max at FiveStar can help you. P/N: XM-17271-C

what kind of MPG are you guys getting with 4.10's?

Believe it or not,
my computer says almost 26 MPG on the hwy@75 MPH.
17-18 around town (in NYC) if I keep my foot out of it.
I picked up 1.5-2 MPG with Genos Chip.

How do you pick up MPG with a chip? The more timing you use the worse the gas milege. Does Geno's chip retard your timing?

you have it completely backwards.

advancing timing increases power and efficiency ,(up to a certain point of couse)

retard timing and you lose everything good, except for stopping detonation,if that was a problem
