I just bough a pair of RED ccfl's of ebay for E36, paid $96 shipped, they aren't the cheap ones because they have the aluminum backing. The problem is, they light up pink and not red! I was just wondering if anybody had any experience with red cclf's before and if they had the same problem or not. Or could these be just defective.

do you have pictures?

Yeah, a picture would help to determine. I've seen both red and pink halos, so I know both are sold. From what I've seen, the red ones usually look obviously red at night and maybe pinkish during the daylight, maybe. Also, the red halos will definitely appear pinkish if they are not getting enough juice or have a solid connection - check that out too.

Here are the ccfls at day:

Here they are at night:

Now here is something that I wanted to try out and see what you guys think. I painted the ccfls with the red taillight tint spray and I want to know what you guys think...

And here they are at night, although they are not as bright with the paint on them but atleast they are RED and not the gay pink color.

Please let me know your oppinions on this because I'm really not sure if I should go with the painted look, although it is really unique!

The painted ones look better. That is crazy that the rings look pink without the tint.

they will stand out in your headlights.. but still better than pink

I'm in on the gay vote. One other thing though, is it not illegal to have red lights on your car in your state?

It probably is illegal, but Im used to that, plus red isn't as bad as blue so I shouldn't have any problems. Yea I kinda like the way the red tint looks, just wish they were brighter at night.

Pink neon lights? J/K. Painted they look good. If there was a way to get smaller rings and some how mount them in the LS tails, that would look cool. The led attempt is ok but I personally think that red rings in red tails would look sweet.

I've heard (here at least) that the cops come down on colored lights on the cars - some kinda law like red is for emergency, blue for fire marshals, etc. (?) i don't know about pink lights for gay, though

Please post some pics when you're done for those of us not brave enough to do it :D

Sounds cheap...I've never seen a "good" pair of CCFL lights for less than a couple hundred...

No truer words have ever been spoken.

Just wire them to a switch so you turn them on when you want.

I second that idea. I know it's illegal in Indiana to have any red lights on the front of a vehicle. Also it would be intesting with the tail light thing too if they made ccfl's small enough.

Usually red lights are reserved for "emergency vehicles", i.e. fire/rescue, ambulance. Blue are used for law enforcment. Displaying either can land you in some trouble and depending on the officer can lead to some potentially serious problems. If your a car show guy then i'd say go for it. If your not then whether you have a switch or not your asking for trouble. I forsee a "I got pulled over" post in your near future.
