Pulled the trigger yesterday and got my new beast (or beauty, if you prefer).

So now the questions are gonna start flying -

1. What are some lower-cost options that can help performance/quality? Will a K& N air filter be any better than a stock filter?

2. Do you guys replace the air cabin and seat filters when they suggest that you should?

3. This is for any 06 owners out there that had the 17" chrome rims on their ride. I've noticed a fair amount of junk on the backside of the rims - not sure if it's corrosion or something else, but it is visible when you're looking at the rims. Did anyone try to sand/grind this stuff down and paint the backside black (or something else) to improve the looks?

4. How do you guys feel about the quietness of the LS' cabin? I thought it might be a little more than what it is. Seems there is still quite a bit of road noise getting in.

Question 2: Yes replace depending where you live and the amount of particulates, but not necessarily when you get a message center warning. Blowing out the filter's extend the life and then just re-set the info center warning.

Question 3: Someone with chrome wheels can chime in.

Question 4: The cabin is fairly quit, you may need to look at your tires if it is getting noisy.
 
Good point on the tech articles, GC. I honestly didn't think of looking to see if something like that existed, and I SHOULD have.

Digging into the previous articles out there. Disregard my questions if the answers are out there.

I just made a thread for making some cone filter kits, Im guessing $50 shipped, check out the thread... You can even pick your own filter color if you want :D
 
I have an 04 with factory chrome wheel (12 spoke with big lincoln center cap) and the plating on interoir of wheel is always flaking off. Chrome side looks fine. If you can get the dealer to pull the wheels off clean and paint then do it. The plating will start to rub on caliper and make a slight ticking noise. For some odd reason after a tire rotation the drivers side front always has this problem. I had no luck getting the dealer to fix this. Good Luck with the new car.

Those are made so that if you fart while driving it will filter it out and not linger in the cabin right? :shifty:
 
LSKONCEPTS.COM for them cheaper performance upgrades like filters (I'd go with KKM, I like them far better than K&N)
 
no, the gen 1's are a filament design I believe. The filter is for AC equipped seats IIRC.
 
Gen I's use a wire inside the seat to generate heat. A description of the gen II system is below. The only compliant I have is how loud the seat fans are.

Both the driver and front passenger seat has an independent climate controlled seat system installed. A climate controlled seat module mounted to the bottom of the seat cushion electronically controls the climate controlled seat system (CCSM). The climate controlled seat system receives power from both the battery power and vehicle run circuits. The vehicle must have ignition ON and the dual automatic temperature control unit (DATC) module switch set to HEAT or COOL 1, 2, 3 or AUTO for the climate controlled seat system to activate.

AUTO mode is achieved by pressing the HEAT and COOL settings simultaneously. The center LED will be illuminated when the CCSM is in AUTO mode.

Cabin air is drawn through the seat fan motor and distributed to each of the thermo-electric device (TED) modules located in the seat cushion and backrest. The TEDs then heat or cool the air. The air is then directed into the foam pad B-surface. Channels in the A-surface of the foam pad are used to distribute the air along the surface of the seat.

Once the system is activated, the climate controlled seat module uses a set of flexible algorithms to control the heating/cooling modes, and the fan motor speed based on the climate controlled seat switch settings. These algorithms are designed to protect the user from potentially harmful prolonged exposure to climate extremes.

The TED uses a "Peltier" circuit of P-type and N-type semiconductors connected in series using copper electrical conductors. The semiconductors are sandwiched between 2 insulating ceramic plates. When current is applied to the TED, one side releases energy as heat, while the opposite side absorbs energy and gets cold. By reversing the current flow, the hot and cold sides reverse.

The temperature differences between the individual HEAT and COOL settings is minimal. For example, it is difficult to distinguish between LOW COOL and MEDIUM COOL settings. Monitoring the seat temperature at different HEAT or COOL settings should not be done as it is ineffective in confirming climate controlled seat system operation.

Also I didn't really notice too much of a performance change with my K&N, but it does give it a meaner sound for sure. Also it takes alot of bullcrap out of the engine compartment with the stock air box.

Question on the pics. Do you have to post a certain number of threads before you're allowed to post pics or can you right off the bats?
 
Oh man, my typing is royally sucking today. Take the "s" from bats and move it to the top line where my fingers SHOULD have put it on "need."

Geez, at least the day's almost over.
 
My LS came with the factory chrome 16's and as soon as a I could they came off! I hate chrome because it is too high maintenance. Looks good if you take care of it, but I don't want to take the time to clean it all the time. I prefer machined and clear coated rims since they are a lot easier to take care of.
