Prob time for the LS to go...

No one knows whats wrong with my car, the temperature goes up to half way and just stays there doesnet get any hotter. I dont have that much heat, and have bluish exhaust smoke when starting the car. Best guess from anyone is a start of a head gasket although they couldnt prove it, my dad is a mechanic and has looked at the car on and off since about september, when the water pump blew apart and a hose blew off. Havent driven the car more then maybe 15 miles since september its been in a garage. I hate to get rid of it but the labor guide says 13.9 hrs to just swap engines in and out not including moving the extra parts, which means im lookin at about 16 hours of work, plus the price of prob a new engine. So now i think i really have no choice but to just off the car. Dont know what price to ask for it has 101k miles stereo, borla, intake, tint 20's and many other things. SO i have no idea waht price to ask for or what i could get for it becuase no one knows whats wrong with it.
 
well - it is normal for the temp to only ever get half way on the gauge - any more is abnormal.

The heat could be a couple of things:
- the aux pump is not working - there is a seperate electrical pump the circulates coolant through the interior loop
- the 'blend' valve is not working - commonish issue - so the car never changes the airflow mix from the outside air to mix with the warn coolant

Are you in Sheffield Ohio? What kind of 20's do you have and would you want to sell them seperate from the car?
 
yea in ohio right by I90, id prob sell them seperate, but im waiting about another month to go over the car and check those things that quik just told me about if thats the case i really love this car and want to keep it but i dont know if i can afford since i just got a 88 mustang and just bought all kinds of things for it heads cam intake supercharger etc. But i will see if i do ill let you know, if you go to search and type in pics of my car from spinfest you will see my car and the rims and stuff i have on it thanks

If the rims are something I would be intrested in I will buy them........DIBS!!!
 
Head Gasket Problems?

Something is very wrong with this picture? I would NOT be considering an engine change at this point.

Test the engine coolant for combustion gases. This is a VERY basic thing to do. Nobody has suggested this to you? This will immediately tell you if the head gaskets are leaking. Any coolant in the oil? This can also be tested for.

Have you changed the thermostat? Again a VERY basic and cheap thing to do. I don't know if either of these are your problem but they are way too cheap and easy to NOT do! Are you losing any coolant? After the water pump problem, what parts were replaced and was the correct coolant used to refill? It is not the standard green or red anti-freeze. Read the owners manual. I would also pressure test the cooling system. Does the degas bottle cap hold pressure?

Finally have you had the computer codes checked? Any AutoZone can do this for free. Be sure to get the exact number the reader displays and not the parts guys version. Also have them clear the codes after reading. Yes, they can clear the codes, although some of the guys will tell you they can not. I want to see the codes come back before I start changing things. I find random codes that do not repeat sometimes or maybe old codes from a prior problem. You might have some codes stored even if you don't have a check engine light.


Post back with what you find out if you can.

ive changed the thermostat, radiator was changed about a month prior, new water pump, checked aux pump, did the headgasket check but nothing happened. There is something ovbiously going on that oil is being burnt everytime i start the car with blue smoke coming out, I had my dads friend at the lincoln dealer look at it, they had it for 2 days. They came up with nothing. My dad is mechanic owns his own shop and has being doing so for about 30 years, The car def needs something and nobody can figure it out and why it used to run at 1/4 on the temp gauge and no just runs at the 1/2 mark constantly moving or idle. The car has been apart many times now and no one can figure out anything. Part of the waterpump got melted somehow also when this all happend back in sept that is why that was changed. Before it blew out and leaked out all the coolant it was having on and off cooling problems for a month or so but that, but that was due to the thermostat and a leaky resevoir. At this point i dont know what to do and blue smoke is bad, something wrong in the heads other then the cooling problems that is why the engine would be changed.
 
I love how every one of these "getting rid of the LS" threads starts, people see the for sale sign go up on all the aftermarket mods and want to buy everything :)
 
I'm shocked that you say it ran around a 1/4 on the temp gauge cause thats not normal, around 1/2 is the norm and it shouldn't go up and down idle or not. Not having that much heat and having bluish smoke are two different problems and surely the dealership can figure out why you aren't getting heat and your car is at operating temp if not go to another dealer. As far as the oil burn off how bad is it. If it's not that bad then it probably associated with the high miles. Try a different motor oil maybe a high mileage one

I agree, this is like the wild west after a shoot out. The dead guy would lie in the street and people would take his boots belt hat, etc. The guy wasn't even cold yet...........BRUTAL :shifty: :eek:
