Hello all,

Sort of a newb here, but I currently own a lovely 2002 ls with 112,000 miles on here. Besided the usual coils, transmission, hydro fan problem I have loved this car.

My issue actually is crazy. I ended up swapping the hydro fan unit out and totally replacing with a electric fan. Took it to a in town mechanic to have him wire it up properly to where it came on with the ignition switch....and this guy just wrapped the wire on the fuse and plugged it in!!!!! Luckily i checked after work was done, got my money back and almost slapped the taste out of his mouth for doing some crappy work.

So after that experience I am just going to try and do it myself. I checked on here and saw that some used fuses, and some sodered it to the main power supply located somewhere in the wheel well? Would anyone know where to soder or fuse this too?

I got the other wire grounded, so just looking to get this puppy fired up, but wanted to do a safe and reliable wire up. Tried the thermostat that goes into the radiator, but was having issues with it comming on so scrapped that idea.

Thanks

You could also connect to the large stud terminal on the starter, where the battery cable and the alternator cable meet. Be sure to put a fuse near there in a weather tight holder.

Heres a link to my conversion thread.

I wired my fan power wire directly to the Bulkhead fitting in the passenger side wheel well and used a 30amp fuse. I then tapped into a green/orange wire under the steering column that is 12v+ when the ignition is on. I used that to supply ground to the fan using a relay to turn a switched 12v+ to a negative output. This is working out great for me but I'm sure there are several ways to wire the fan.

@joegr, sounds easy to do and simple, and where and how would i use the fuse?

@Hite, are the wires easy to distinguish from? The 30 amp fuse, 12v+ how do those work? How exactly would I wire and put everything together. Sorry for the questions pretty unintelligent when it comes to all this.

Just want to completely understand what I am doing so i dont mess anything up lol. I had to get her bumper repainted and she should be comming home today.

When I get her in the garage I plan on dedicating some time to get this issue finally resolved.

Thanks for all the help

Oh Hite, I used the v belt you listed on your write up due to the fact that when the fan went out on my ls, the whole damn pulley came off!!!! So used your mod for v belt. Works great!!! Just gotta get this wired to the ON wire right.

I used a blade fuse holder and put a ring terminal on one end. I removed the nut on the battery power wire at the passenger side wheel well, put the ring terminal on the stud and reinstalled the nut. The other end of the fuse was tied onto the power wire for the fan.

For the ground I wired the relay like this

If you are unsure of how to do this type of wiring then take it to a pro. You dont want to damage something severely or light your car on fire.
