hey guys,

i'm currently in the market for a new car, and the lincoln ls is one that has caught my eye. i test drove three a couple of few weeks ago, and while it was nice, to be honest... after searching the forum for a few weeks and reading some of the post on here, i seem kind of skeptical in buying one. it seems that most people keep having one problem after another, some even regretting their decision on buying the ls. now i know a car will always have it's ups and downs, but it seems that once someone fixes problem x on their ls, new problem x, x, and x appears. so i dunno, i guess i'm basically asking for other peoples opinion on their decision, flaws and all, current owners or past. thanks!

I have owned my 2002 LS for about a year and a half and have had very little problems with it.

I don't regret my decision at all.

bought my 02 last november with 45,000 miles and no problems here, except with the coils, but the car is under warranty, just make sure you get that warranty. Thats all im saying.

Everything that goes wrong is usually rather easy to fix, just that it is a little more expensive then we might want. If you buy one, get the warranty. bumper to bumper and test drive the hell out of it for a week or so. Coils, coolant reservoir leaking,(causes overheating), clockspring, (causes air bag light to come on), door handle problems, (can be a royal pain in the arse, especially if the door wont open from the inside or outside) very few tranny issues, thermostat problems, very few cooling fan issues. valve cover gaskets (causes coils to go bad)

If you're worried about mechanical problems, get a newer one that still has factory warranty left. Don't get a 2000 or 2001 or 2002 car with 9X,XXX miles. Why people do that is beyond my comprehension.

I had only known, minor issues with my 2003 car (all fixed under warranty), and have had no problems with my 2006 car. Overall, my LSes have been the most problem-free cars I've ever owned.

Like everyone said make sure its covered under warranty or pick one up.

Window busts, buttons fall off dash, mid console or center console gets ruined quick...............oh the sun roof falls apart, pieces litteraly falling into the car and hitting you in the head while driving, I found my alarm going off after getting off from work on hot days. You look stupid if its going off for a while, sst harness goes bad quick, heated seat on the drivers side goes quick, there is the suspension issue, there is alot of issues. I just found something leaking tonight when I droped off DVD's at Block Buster. You just gotta love the car, if you do then you can deal with it.

Reading alot of TSB's and posts it seems this all happens after at least 50k.

ls is very reliable and good car. has its issues just like every other car. you buy the name you play the game.

someone fixes problem x on their ls, new problem x, x, and x appears.

You suck at equations. If we solve problem X, a new problem X cannot appear, as it would be the old problem X.

Now, problems Y and Z could appear, and those would be new problems.

I like the LS, used to rent them from Budget ( we are a Preferred Vendor and as such we get 25% off), but I'd never own one. Too may problems.

It may not be the most reliable car but it's not that bad. You'll always get bad reports on forums like this, because enthusiasts tend to drive them hard, and because more people join a forum to complain about something that broke than to just say "it's still working".

Wow, this guy cracks me up.

My 2000 has 139K miles on it. Significantly fewer problems than any of my Sables, and they were good cars. The only thing that was big ticket was transmission solenoid pack. I will need to do the cam cover gaskets, front stabilizer bushings and ball joints in the next few months. The clockspring is no big deal. It took me less than an hour and the part was <$100. Like owlman said, places like this are mainly frequented by people with problems. I would hazard a guess that the posters here represent less than one percent of LS owners.

Get an '02 (virtually all 1st gen issues were addressed) or '04+ with low miles and a warranty good for 7 years or 100K miles (whichever you'll use up first) from Ford and enjoy the LS.

Not really, Im here cause no one else has sites or forums for any type of customizing and such for the LS. Every LS I see on the web led me to this place cause its the only place to find people styling it in theyr own way.

Friend:
This is common with ANY auto forum. First off, the number of owners of a particular car who post on a forum, is a minute number of the actual TOTAL number of cars. So first off, your representative audience is extremely small.
Second...this is primarily what forums are for. For people to report, discuss, and diagnose problems/issues. As a general rule, no one starts threads stating "Hey..my car runs fine..just letting the internet know!"

With that in mind, I am on my second LS. First was a 2000 V6 Sport Package that I sold in order to get a new 2002 V8 LSE.

No regrets..at all. 80k miles, and a few issues, but nothing that couldnt be resolved. Great car overall.

lseguy is correct. Problems are the number one thing that you are going to see on an enthusiast forum. I have did my fair share of complaining about my LS. If I remember correctly I even described it as a turd. But I still like the car. It is a blast to drive. Some cars have more problems than others. But I think mine has had almost every problem mentioned on this forum except the "clockspring" isssue. But also by reading this forum and asking questions I have been able to repair almost every problem myself. This can save you tons of money. I have had overheating, tail lights filling with water, sunroof leaking, valve cover gaskets leaking, faulty coils, window regulator broke, transmission no 2nd or 5th, abs/traction control/parking brake warning light staying on. The last issue still needs resolved.
