portable GPS in the LS

Garmin 1350.... is awsome, and less than $300.

Tons of features.

Garmin 1300... almost as good, only missing a couple features. $150.

my wife got my Tom Tom XL 340S for $97 on black friday at Target. it was a great gift indeed

Hey hey, why quote me lol.. I'm sure theres a good explanation for why it costs more :D (There were less expensive options) I just liked the size of the screen and gizmo's.

The new TomTom have the bracket built in and is easier to remove the whole unit, and you can hard wire just like a radar detector. The aftermarket in dash is just as vulnerable to theft if someone wants it. It is easy to move to other vehicles when needed or use walking, cycling, and motorcycling.

Yea if a person has knowledge of a car and know the right tools to have any car can be vunerable, but who walks around with tools on them all the time. I'm talking about just quick break in like at a mall where there is a lot of people and cars to browse through. I just rather everything in my car look factory.

yeah understood, but the way i have my bracket set up (i always remove the Tom Tom when parked publically) you can't even see the bracket since it's in the tinted part of the windshield. people who are riding with me have a hard time seeing it until i tell them where it's at.

Yea if you take everything down when you are out and about then that's the smart thing to do. I just see so many people who leave them up and it's like their car is saying, "break into me". Actually local law enforcement advise that people be cautious and take them down to help on the number of break-ins.

You always need to use common sense, its like leaving a wallet or purse in full view. It only takes a moment to remove from sight and only a moment to steal, that goes for in dash units also, besides breaking a window they destroy the interior and do more damage then the unit is worth.

Hey Alax how often do you find yourself using the stock nav. Since getting an iPhone with GPS inside google maps, I have completely phased out using the stock Nav... mine is still the 2004 map disc and quite frankly it sucks IMO. lol

I mainly go places I know how to get to.It does need to be updated though, need a newer disk . I use it here and there but it is nice to have. I do like how the tomtoms can look for intersections instead of only addresses and nearest restaurants. I'll just wait for my next car to have a high tecch nav like that.

They are easier to see in your line of sight on the windshield than looking down to a ashtray in heavy traffic even though they have voice command. I like that I have to just shift my eyes from the road to the display.

Good point

Here's what I used before I put in the AVIC D3. Got it from www.proclipusa.com
