Has anyone in here swapped out there Spark Plug wires? Im on my 4th Coil in the past week. Had my gaskets replaced & 2 coils at that time, then the next day another went out, & now my fourth. Talked to the technician, & he said theres no oil in the plugs... Going to change this one by myself, but I was running by options with my old man, & he suggested replacing the plug wires. I can only imagine the price at the Stealership & couldnt find any at the Team Ford website. Any help would be cool!

It's very unlikely that you'd need to replace the wiring harness to your coils. Don't worry about it... just replace ALL of your coils and see what happens

Especially as the LS doesn't have plug wires.

yeah that's pretty much what I was getting at by saying wiring harness instead of plug wires... hopefully he already knew it didn't have plug wires

Infact, I didnt realize there were plug wires... Interesting.. So just a wire harness to the coils?

just replace ALL of your coils and see what happens

If only I had that kind of money to buy 4 new coils.

right - no spark plug wires running from a central distribution cap to the spark plugs.

The coils sit on top of the spark plugs, and are triggered by a low voltage signal form the PCM. It's all through a wiring harness.

Quik..

When I was talking to my old man, he was explaining how when the resistance thru the plug wires went bad that it would over work the coils.. Is there a chance the PCM is messing them up some how? Im just blown away that 4 have gone bad like this.

in the old days of coil and spark plug wires - it was possible for a bad plug/wire to cause a jumpy discard from the coil - and over time degrading the coil's lifespan. it doesn't work that way today since their is no wiring between the coil and plug anymore - however - if you are one of us lucky ones where oil was sneeking past the gaskets and into the plug wells - the shorting of the spark caused by the oil had the same deterioration effect on the coil....

Coils go bad - mostly because of heat - which is heighten by placing them closer to the engine.

I would simply swap all the coils - and get past it. the dealer is $100, the ford distributors are more like $60. If the car is reporting mis-fires - then it is very possible that the clyinder reporting the mis-fire is not the one with the issue.

I posted this in another thread also. My car was just at the dealer this week and the cost of one coil (2W4Z 12029 BD) was $33.32.
