can someone please answer this burning question does the pioneer avic- d2 play dvd movies or not.... if so them im a idoit

it need auxilary screens, so if you put a dvd in youd hear it but not see it

seriously well a friend of mine is selling one and i want it but the main reason of the unit i want it the screen size and the dvd playback he says that it has

The D1 and D2 does NOT play DVD's. The second slot is for DVD Roms which is for the maps. You would need to use the audio video RCA outputs and an external DVD player to play DVD's.

It will not play DVDs internally. Pioneer makes DVD changers and it will play through its screen but its internal DVD reader cannot read movies, its for the navigation ONLY.
How much does he want for it? The reason I ask is you can get a used Z1 for $500 ish and for another $90 can upgrade it to a Z3 with a big ass hard drive to store 40gb of music on.

Also the Eclipse I have in my car I really dig. Much faster processor for the nav then my old D3 had. They are around $400 new on ebay now and are really nice decks.

Yup, only difference between your and mine is mine came with plugs for a Toyota. It was supposed to be a dealer demo unit but some place got them instead and is selling them on eBay for cheap. Great deck but whatever amp you get I suggest its one that has a remote bass controll because to get to the subs settings is rediculous on these damn things.
To change the subs volume level: Press menu, system options, settings, next, woofer and then level.

what do u think of this unit ,,,seriously i think ill buy it sat

Thats a good deck, its screen is a little smaller then the 5510 or the 6610 but its a nice system. They usually go for $500 so that one used will prolly hit $400.

Keep an eye on this auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/Pioneer-AVIC-Z1...tion?hash=item4ceab74948&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
If you can get it for around $400 I would jump on it. Then if you want you can order the larger Z3 hard drive for $90 that has all the new maps plus includes the upgrades so it can download new maps for free in the future. Also includes the bypass so youcan watch DVDs while moving. It will also allow you to download a few thousand songs into the deck and you will never need a CD again. :D

Laser nice Parrot Bluetooth intergration. I'm going with the Pioneer Avic-F700BT. Pretty clean and allows me to voice talk to my Ipod and Bluetooth.

I would highly reccomend against that deck. I was looking at it as well and then a buddy bought one. That deck takes almost a full minute to "boot" and the nav processor is really really slow. It has several other quirks I cant remember right now but that is not a good deck.

Its a shame really. I love Pioneer decks but most of their navigation decks are junk. I had the AVIC-D3 and it is a great deck and fairly cheap now but it sucked cause you cant listen to a CD while in navigation mode because it only has a single slot. :(

I know some of you shy away from the AVIC-Z1 because its an older deck. The thing is the next two generations had the same hardware (close enough)the difference was they got larger hard drives and better software. You can install the 80 gb drive into a Z1 and have all the new maps and really what has to be the single best sounding nav deck out. Also the Z series has the best quality screen I have ever seen! Nakamichi made one a few years back that was just as nice but when I opened it up I saw "Pioneer" stamped on the back.
Never mess with a DVD nav disc again and store all your music into the deck itself. ..... I wonder if you can load movies onto the hard drive? The 80 gb drive has like 60gb left open for media so I bet you can.

damn missed that ebay auction due to working all weekend

i missed that deal on that nav/dvd due to working all weekend long so now im searching for another one

Dont get it. Its a locked deck and you will never get it unlocked.... unless Eclipse changed policies in the last couple years.

It's actually a good deck. There's been firmware updates that speed up the boot time. It works great for me.
